Rules Q&A
- Q: How does the new Mukami interact with the Castle of the Wasp? If you choose not to bow him, does he still go home?
A: Yes. Zen Faulkes, "Rules for 30 September 2003, Part 2", 1 Oct 2003 - Q: I have been asked to get an official ruling on this:
1. You CAN play a ranged attack from a personality (say Mukami), React to it with a Tsuruchi Tech (making it ranged 6), then React to it with a different copy of Tsuruchi Tech (making it ranged 9).
A: Absolutely. Vaughn Derderian, "Rules for July 22nd, 2003", 22 Jul 2003 - Q: If I have a Mukami/Tsuruchi Nobumoto with an attached Shinjo Horsebow, can I bow the Horsebow for a RA2, then Mukami to combine for a RA 5, then send him home as per his action?
A: Yes. Jeff Alexander, "post for 24 April 2003", 25 Apr 2003 - Q: I thought that the official ruling was that an action that refered to an 'opposing army' could oly be taken if there was one or more units in the opposing army - i.e., the opposing army exists. If there is no opposing army, you can't take the action. So you can't crushing attack an empty province, Mukami can't produce range attacks targeting no-ono to move province, Berserker's can't gain their 2F, and a crab with Dead Eyes cannot use their ability in an empty province.
A: Not quite. Dead Eyes and Berserkers both generate actions that don't care about the presence of an opposing army for legality. However, they both also have effects that trigger off of the opposing army's force total, and those effects are worded similarly to Crushing Attack. That's the confusion.
BTW - Neither ruling will be changing. Crushing Attack is still not playable vs. an empty army, and Berserkers (and all the others) will not destroy themselves in absolute rage if no one shows up to fight them. More information will be forthcoming later, but for right now just consider it clarification of intent. It's an unfortunate circumstance that both sets of cards have the exact same wording, but those words were meant to mean completely different things in each case.
English. Gotta love it. Vaughn Derderian, "Rules for November 26th", 26 Nov 2000 - Q: I just want to clarify. referencing Soul of a Soul of I just wanted to clearify this specifically is in reference to where a card is the soul of a card that is the soul of another card. But not to two cards who are the soul of the same card, right? Like because since you remove "soul of Tengen" via the rules of 'soul of' they are no longer a valid soul of proxy link?
The instance where it is different (and I care) Tsuruchi Nobumoto has "soul of Mukami" he counts as Mukami for purposes of deck construction. Tsuruchi Isas counts as Mukami for purposes of deck construction. quoted for reference
So if Tsuruchi Nobumoto is equivalent to Mukami for purposes of deck construction, and Tsuruchi Isas is equivalent to Mukami for purposes of deck construction. So this is still good, right? or is it specifically that it must be the older proxies for the newer, not the newer proxies for the older (enabling proxy for the newer) so Nobumoto can not be a proxy for mukami for purposes of a proxy for Isas?
A: You may only use the "Soul of" listed on a card as the proxy for that card.
Therefore, you may use Mukami as a proxy for Tsuruchi Isas. You may not use Tsuruchi Nobumoto as a proxy for Tsuruchi Isas, as Isas is not a Soul of Tsuruchi Nobumoto. Jon Palmer, "Soul of a Soul of", 4 Jan 2012
