Rules Q&A
- Q: If Kinuye exp uses her trait to cast Playing With Madness "as if she were a Shugenja", is she considered to be a Shugenja in *all* senses while she is casting it? For instance, would all her abilities be temporarily considered to be innate abilities, and thus be permanently lost (as per the text of Playing With Madness)?
A: Yes. Casting constitutes taking the Action of a Spell or Kiho, and includes the process of resolving that Action's effects. While resolving those effects, Kinuye is a Shugenja - period. All her abilities are "innate abilities" and are lost due to Playing With Madness's effects. Martin Lund, "Rules for 21 December 2004", 27 Dec 2004 - Q: If the answer still being "yes" please resolve me this example about Slaughter the Scout:
Kevin attack to province 1 with Asako Kinuye exp, and Richard defends with Shinjo REizo at province 2. Kevin decides to start in province 1, Richard pass in his first option to take an action (he has no units) and Kevin use Kaneka's Wind ability to move kinuye from province 1 to province 2 and Richard react with Slaughter the Scout. Is it possible? Can Richard react in a not started battle?
A: There is no rule against taking Reactions in battles that have yet to resolve during the Battle Action Segment.
However, keep in mind that page 81 of the Diamond Edition Rulebook restricts certain Actions (even Reactions) to the current battle only, including those Actions that refer to an "opposing" card or "this battle." Martin Lund, "Rules for 11 December 2004", 13 Dec 2004 - Q: I resolve Blessings of Isawa then have Kinuye xp cast some Kiho that normally requires bowing, say, Banish All Shadows. Because of her trait she doesn't need to bow for the initial casting, but when she gets the ability imprinted, will it continue to count as a Kiho (and she therefore won't need to bow) or is it now an ability with bowing as part of it's cost?
A: Rules Archive, Blessings of Isawa: "The ability keeps the keywords of the kiho, including 'Kiho.'" Zen Faulkes, "Blessings of Isawa and Asako Kinuye xp", 27 May 2007
