Rules Q&A
- Q: If, during the Action Phase, Ninube Onchi were to target Asako Chukage to remove one of his abilities and Shiba Sansesuke was to activate his Reaction to redirect Onchi's action onto himself, would Sansesuke successfully interrupt the targeted Shugenja and place the effect on himself? Or is Sansesuke not a "legal target" because his own ability would be turned off? Thank you.
Shiba Sansesuke: Reaction: When an action would target your Shugenja at Sansesuke's location, bow Sansesuke: The action targets him instead, if legal. http://imperialassembly.com/oracle/#cardid=6803
Ninube Onchi: Open: Target a Personality: Remove one of his abilities (until the turn ends). http://imperialassembly.com/oracle/#cardid=5590
A: As long as Sanesuke's action is legal when you announce it, it will resolve. In this situation Onchi will remove an ability that has already been used, from Sanesuke. Jon Palmer, "Shiba Sansesuke vs Ninube Onchi", 23 Dec 2012 - Q: Card Title Burning Dreams Keywords Unique Text Any player who controls the Imperial Favor discards it. Until your Events Phase two turns from now begins, actions that discard the Imperial Favor as a cost have their effects negated if they target a Nonhuman Personality. Until the game ends, Nonhumans may not perform Political actions.
My question is If my opponent targets a personality with Accidental confession preventing them from assigning, say in this instance Ninube Onchi who at that stage is human, and after this I use Damning Ceremony or even sly deceiver to turn Onchi into a nonhuman, will that then negate the effects of Accidental confession as it discards the favor?
A: For the purpose of Burning Dreams, the determination of whether a targeted Personality is Nonhuman is done when the targeting occurs. It does not matter if the Personality later gains Nonhuman. Alex Jones, "Burning Dreams", 23 Nov 2012 - Q: Hi,
Can I target by Kitsuki Yoyugi (or Ninube Onchi) action Political Open: Target a Personality and bow Yoyugi unless the target is non-Unique or Unicorn Clan: The target's base abilities may not be used. a personality which is dead or discarded?
I was wondering if I can stop the Shadow dragon ex. open ability or other personalitys ability that they can use even when discarded or dead.
Thx for reply
A: No, because cards that are out of play may not be targeted by abilities unless specified on the ability. Jon Palmer, "Kitsuki Yoyugi and shadow dragon", 24 Sep 2012 - Q: Let's say Ninube Onchi removes an ability from a personality. For example, Tsuruchi Kosoko's ability. Later that turn, Onchi plays Sly Deceiver on the same Kosoko.
Since "base" refers to abilities as printed, without modifications from effects, does Sly Deceiver still copy the removed ability? Or does removing it interfere with the copying? My guess is that it is copied regardless, but I'm not sure if there are settled precedents from other cards.
A: Yes, Sly Deceiver would still copy the ability.
As you reason, copying "base" text from a card copies what is printed on the card, regardless of what may have been added, removed, or modified by effects. Brook Cunningham, "Ninube Onchi + Sly Deceiver", 20 Mar 2012
