Rules Q&A
- Q: The battle action listed on the card states as follows. "Put Shiho on the top of your Dynasty deck (face-down). Put all cards without attachments in a target enemy Personality's unit on the bottom of their appropriate deck." The scenario is the opponent has five Personalities in the current battlefield. Four of these Personalities are cards without attachments and one has attachments.
Questions based on the scenario: 1. What is the interpretation (ruling) of the opponents five Personalities at the battlefield. Is this the opponents "unit" or is that considered an "army"?
So based on the interpretation (ruling) the following option would apply. 1. If this is considered a "unit" then the four separate personalities are placed at the bottom of his/her deck. 2. If it is considered an "army" then you can only single out one personality.
Thanks for the assistants. Lycan1849
A: A "unit" is a Personality plus all his attachments. A number of units at a battlefield make up an army.
For Ninube Shiho, you target one unit (personality plus his attachments). If the Personality has attachments, they are put on the bottom of their owner's deck. If the Personality does not have attachments, the Personality is put on the bottom of its owner's deck. Jon Palmer, "Understanding of battle action on Ninube Shiho", 17 Mar 2015 - Q: For example I am playing Shibata Sensei out of Scorpion, and I want to bring Ninube Shiho into play.
Do I: a: Pay 7G - 4G increased to a Minimum of 5G plus 2G for Out of Clan. or b: Pay 6G - 4G plus 2G for Out of Clan, then check for 5G Minimum, and check is passed.
A: Shibata Sensei checks the total Recruit cost, and in Scorpion, Shiho's cost is 6. So you will pay 6. Jon Palmer, "Shibata Sensei and Out of Clan personalities", 11 Mar 2015 - Q: The time has come for me to ask another question about my favourite spell: I have the spell attached to a shugenja in my army.
My opponent has an opportunity to play a battle action, and they choose to play either Pack Tactics or Ninube Shiho's ability.
Now I choose to interrupt with the spell, negating the battle action. My spellcaster is removed from the game until the end of the turn.
But does anything happen to my opponent's units? Eg: does he have to now bow 2 personalities if he played Pack Tactics (and does he have to discard the card?), or does he have to put Shiho on top of his Dynasty deck if he used Shiho's ability?
Or does he not have to? And who has the next chance to take a battle action? I think I would, but just asking to make sure.
A: It negates all effects of the action, which includes bowing two Personalities (Pack Tactics) or putting Shiho on top of your deck. You would however get the next opportunity to act. Jon Palmer, "Interrupt the Void's Flow and Pack Tactics or Ninube Shiho", 9 Jan 2015 - Q: Is Ninube Shiho's ability considered to be a type of movement? Can Shiho's ability be used on a person wearing iron armor?
A: No, it is not. Movement involves changing from one location to another, and out of play areas are not locations. Jon Palmer, "Ninube Shiho and Movement", 5 Jan 2015 - Q: First, the spell Ward of Air days "... Destroy this spell to negate it." What does it refer to? The destruction, or the battle action?
In slightly related news, does Ninube Shiho's ability destroy him?
If the answer to #1 is the former, and the answer to #2 is yes, does Ward of Air prevent Shiho from going to the top of my deck but the rest of the ability still happen?
A: "It" refers to the Battle action. Shiho's ability does not destroy him. Jon Palmer, "Ward of air with a little Ninube Shiho love", 24 Sep 2014 - Q: viewtopic.php?f=59&t=109169
Regarding the above. What about if the Shugenja travels through the Void via Interrupt the Void's flow? Since the unit is removed from the game, and not simply from play, one would presume the tracking of Resilient is lost?
As an aside, I don't see the section of the comprehensive rules on game state tracking regarding cards "face down out of play" losing their states (ala Emperor Edition). If Ninube Shiho is used one someone who has already had Resilient triggered how do you track it, or will that also be forgotten?
A: Interrupt the Void's Flow does not put a card facedown and out of play, so it would track its game state of having "burned" Resilient.
Going facedown and out of play via Shiho, however, would reset the Resilient flag. Jon Palmer, "Reslient Again", 29 Jul 2014 - Q: Ninube Shiho
Ninja Battle: Put Shiho on top of your Dynasty deck (face-down). Put all cards without attachments in a target enemy Personality's unit on the bottom of their appropriate deck.
So the question is... If I have followers on Shiho, like Fudo's Fiend and I use Shiho's ability what happens to the follower or attachments on her? Do they get destroyed or sent to the top of the fate deck?
Thanks for everything!
A: Shiho's attachments are put on top of your Fate deck.
From the Comprehensive Rules: If a Personality leaves play (for example, by being destroyed), all cards in the unit leave play in the same way. Alex Jones, "Ninube Shiho and its attachments", 25 Apr 2014 - Q: If my opponent duels Ninube Shiho and takes control of him with Kokujin inexperienced and after my next action uses Ninube Shiho's ability Ninja Battle: Put Shiho on top of your Dynasty deck (face-down). Put all cards without attachments in a target enemy Personality's unit on the bottom of their appropriate deck.
Does Shiho go to the top of my opponents "The current controller of shiho" deck or the owners "my" deck and in the case of a kotei would shiho going in the opponents deck count as having a marked card in his deck, especially if he does something to shuffle his dynasty deck, like a Jade pearl Inn due to most likely different sleeves for the cards.
We had two spiders playing each other and were curious about how to resolve this unusual chain of events.
Kokujin's effect
Battle: Kokujin challenges a target enemy Personality. Destroy the duel's loser or, if Kokujin wins, you may destroy one of your Personalities (at any location) to take control of the loser (he joins Kokujin's army).
Thank You!
A: Cards can only ever enter their owners' decks or discard piles. If a card is about to go to one of those places that is not its owner's, it goes to its owner's instead. Brook Cunningham, "Kokujin and Ninube Shiho", 18 Apr 2014 - Q: Can Ninube Shiho use his printed battle action in a battle with no opposing units?
If I can, will this result in Shiho being placed on top of my dynasty deck?
A: No. All targeting in an action, not preceded by "you may", is required in order to take the action. Brook Cunningham, "Ninube Shiho without targets", 24 Mar 2014 - Q: I have Ninube Shiho by itself at a battlefield. I announce that I will take Shiho's action, and the enemy player reacts with Iron Will. If I react to Iron Will with Ninja Tricks paying the 1g and bowing Ninube Shiho, do the effects of Shiho's action continue because Shiho was straight when it was announced at the beginning of this sequence?
A: Yes, that's right. Brook Cunningham, "Ninja Tricks vs Iron Will", 5 Apr 2012 - Q: Wouldn't Ninja A remember that he copied Shiho's ability, since Sly Deceiver says he permanently copies the ability?
A: As stated above, no. "Permanent" does not mean "cannot be undone." Zen Faulkes, "Ninube Shiho & Sly Deceiver", 3 Oct 2011 - Q: I was under the impression that "permanently" overrode card memory because its was something that has a duration of until end of the game.
A: There is no such exception to the Tracking Rule I can find. The Tracking rule (http://rules.l5r.com/CE_Effects#Tracking_rule) specifically says it applies to ongoing effects, and "permanent" is one kind of ongoing effect (http://rules.l5r.com/CE_Effects#Ongoing_effects).
Perhaps you are thinking of the rules for events (http://rules.l5r.com/CE_Card_types#Events)? If you do find a section in the Rules Wiki that supports your impression, please do point it out. That might help to explain it better, word it better in the wiki, or correct an error. Zen Faulkes, "Ninube Shiho & Sly Deceiver", 3 Oct 2011
