Oni no Akuma has as a trait
Assigning or moving Akuma to a battlefield has the additional cost, "Destroy your performing Follower."
How can a follower be performing a trait? Because last I checked assigning wasn't something that could be performed.
A: Well, assigning isn't something that usually has a cost either. It's rather a delicate line, maintaining the function of the older card while giving it newer wording, and perhaps Akuma's trait needs further review. Brook Cunningham, "Oni no Akuma * exp (follower performing a not-action)", 8 May 2012 - Q: http://rules.l5r.com/EE_Glossary_P-Q#Perform Only talks about performing actions.
2nd question,
If an action is moving Oni no Akuma to a battlefield, can you destroy a performing follower under the effects of Nerve Striketo pay the movement cost, or is it technically part of the action that moved him?
A: Tentatively, no.
But, like I said, the updating of Akuma's trait could perhaps use some review and tweaking. Brook Cunningham, "Oni no Akuma * exp (follower performing a not-action)", 8 May 2012 - Q: Regarding Zen's comments here:
The example seems like a bad one, since Akuma no Oni [exp2], the one that's SE legal (the current one being Oni no Akuma exp2), does not say its honor loss cannot be negated, and neither is a Fate or Spider Clan card.
(I'm commenting this here 'cause such a comment, in a stickied thread, seems sure to create some confusion)
A: Example removed. Zen Faulkes, "Spider and Akuma under SE rules", 28 Jun 2007 - Q: When Oni no Akuma enters play and destroys my rightmost province does this take effect before the end of battle resolution thus creating a null battle field?
A: Yes.
Note for those playing along at home: This is a change in Samurai Edition. Comprehensive Rules, Battle, After Resolution: "If a province is destroyed for any reason other than resolution during a battle or attack, its battlefield ceases to exist and any Terrain in play there is discarded. All units still there return home. These units bow if they were in an attacking army or if they were allied units." Zen Faulkes, "Complex Imbue Chi/Kyoso/Akuma Question", 28 Jun 2007 - Q: Does having the Porcelain Mask (of Ful Leng Experienced 2) let you ignore the honor loss of Oni no Akuma (Experienced 2)?
A: No. Zen Faulkes, "Porcelain Mask of Fu Leng (Exp 2) and Oni no Akuma (xp 2)", 27 May 2007
