Rules Q&A
- Q: When I remove a Storm Rider from my discard pile with Orochi Sensei's ability to attach a "Follower with the same base Force and abilities as the removed Personality", can I still use abilities that refer to the removed card by its name?
A: Well, it seems in retrospect, Orochi Sensei didn't really work properly even contemporarily, but everyone pretty much ignored that, knowing its intent.
So, I've altered its Oracle entry to better reflect its mechanics properly. Brook Cunningham, "Orochi Sensei and card names", 11 Sep 2012 - Q: Does the CE change to Naval also affect play in the Legacy Format? On rules.l5r.com, the Legacy rules are only current to Samurai, so I'm wondering if I'm playing with Orochi Sensei (which turns Storm Riders into Naval Followers) if I can have my Storm Riders perform Naval actions.
A: The Legacy rules are intended to be used with the Most Current Ruleset, except where excepted. Unless a vote comes making an exception (and I don't anticipate one), Naval Followers will not be able to perform Naval actions, as per the current Rules.
As the mostly-self-appointed Rules Team liaison to the Format, it is definitely on my "to-do" list to update Legacy to CE-compatibility before the start of Kotei season, during which there may be Legacy side-events of import. I apologize for not having yet done so. Brook Cunningham, "Legacy Naval", 25 Jan 2010 - Q: Yes, this is actually an Orochi sensei question...
Orochi Sensei
Orochi Limited: Pay 3 Gold, and target and remove from the game a Storm Rider Personality in your discard pile: Target an Orochi. Attach a Naval Storm Rider Follower token to it with the same printed Force and printed abilities as the removed Personality.
Does "the same" mean "copy" or does it come under the same sort of ruling as Call Upon the Dead (perform the action)?
Thanks,
Leon
A: It means equal. Zen Faulkes, "Orochi Sensei "same"", 29 May 2007
