- After you reveal cards in your Provinces at the start of your turn, if this Event is face-up in one of them, search your Dynasty deck for a non-Unique Holding, refill this Province with it face-up, and permanently give it +1 Gold Cost.

- Age of Enlightenment (Lotus), Four Winds (Gold), Race for the Throne (Samurai), Rain of Blood (Diamond)
- Deck

- Notes
- The Gold-bugged version of this card was released extremely late in the Gold arc: After major events were already over for the season. Most Gold decks that ever saw play during the arc did not have access to this card. However, since there was a Gold version of the card, it is technically legal. Anyone running a tournament can choose to represent a snapshot in time - disallowing this card, or a "Gold-legal" including this card.

- Erratum: Reads, “A New Wall Search your Dynasty deck for a non-Unique Holding. If you find one, refill this province with the Holding, face-up, and permanently raise its Gold Cost by 1.” [MRP, Samurai Edition, 25 July 2007] Comprehensive Rules, Samurai Edition, with specific card rulings, final version, May 2009, p. 121
Rules Q&A
- Q: According to the archive, the number of tokens gained by Moneylender is determined by the gold spent on it, ignoring cost reductions. Is it correct to imply that increasing the cost of Moneylender likewise does not alter its token trait? For example, if I fetch Moneylender with A New Wall, which raises its cost by one, can I still bring it into play for free and give it no tokens, since the Moneylender's trait takes precedence?
A: Moneylender's trait will not take precedence over A New Wall. A New Wall will force you to pay at least 1 gold for Monkeylender.
Gaining the tokens when you first bring Moneylender into play has no cost. It is a triggered effect. Whatever the amount of gold you paid for Moneylender, that the number of tokens that get put on him. Martin Lund, "Rules for 6 May 2004", 9 May 2004 - Q: I do. I wasn't there but I distinctly heard this from those who went.
A: Ah, the basis of so many urban legends: the "FOAF" (Friend of a friend) syndrome.
Wedge was mentioned at the Diamond seminar, but its rarity or distribution was never mentioned. And I was there. Zen Faulkes, "Rules for 4 October 2003, Part 2", 4 Oct 2003 - Q: I was wondering if Fortifications were considered Holdings(.)
A: Yes. http://rules.l5r.com/Legacy_Format_Chan ... Card_Types Zen Faulkes, "Fortifications + A New Wall + Daikoku's Guidance", 10 Feb 2011 - Q: Can you target a fortification in play with DAikoku's Guidance to make it produce 1 more gold in case it produces?
A: Yes. Very few Fortifications do, so it won't give gold production with something that has none. Zen Faulkes, "Fortifications + A New Wall + Daikoku's Guidance", 10 Feb 2011 - Q: How about using the limited action from Daikoku's Guidance? Is it legal?
A: Yes. Zen Faulkes, "Fortifications + A New Wall + Daikoku's Guidance", 10 Feb 2011 - Q: Do you get to choose the province to wich the fortification attaches?
A: Yes. Zen Faulkes, "Fortifications + A New Wall + Daikoku's Guidance", 10 Feb 2011 - Q: Otomo Sensei All Clans Sensei All cards that would go to your discard pile are instead permanently discarded from play.
Reaction: When a player searches for and gets a card from his or her deck or discard pile, discard from play a card from your hand to discard the player's card from play.
My question is this. If my opponent searches their Dynasty deck using an event like A New Wall (searches for a Holding), can I discard a card from my hand to discard that holding (or whatever else they may search for) from play? And if so, can I do the same effect if they are merely placing the card on top of the resepctive deck (fate or Dynasty)?

A: Already more-or-less answered here. (Please remember our pal, the Search function.)
But I'll also reiterate...
Whenever a card is searched for (the "and gets" part of Otomo Sensei's text is vague and/or redundant; ignore it), you may use Otomo Sensei's Reaction if you can pay its cost (discarding your own card). And, as is evident from Marty's second answer in the link above, it doesn't matter where that searched-for card is going (into play, hand, Province, top of deck, etc.); it never gets there. It is removed from the game before it reaches that destination. Brook Cunningham, "Otomo Sensei", 12 Jul 2008 - Q: If I use Shrine of the Sun's ability to recycle events targeting A New Wall, would I shuffle the Holding I got back in(?)
A: No. http://rules.l5r.com/Effects#Duration_of_effects: "Instantaneous effects involve a change in the game state that is officially recorded by changing the position, orientation, or count of a physical game element. Such effects include: Changes to any card’s... game area(.)" Zen Faulkes, "Shrine of the Sun/A New Wall", 13 Aug 2007 - Q: My question is about what happens when Hakahime fetches a refilling event (such as Boundless Sight and A New Wall).
Either :
1/ The province is refilled by the fetched card, someone (the active player ?) decides which of both card the province hold is discarded (since the province can only hold 1).
2/ You cannot refill a province that already hold a card. And the effect fails somehow.
Togashi Imura
A: Discard the card in the Province. Zen Faulkes, "Hakahime + specific events", 2 Apr 2005 - Q: A few Events (Boundless Sight, A New Wall) don't enver play, but as part of their resolution, ask to be replaced by a specific card. My understanding is that the Event resolves, but since if refuses to be discarded, the card cannot be put into the Province instead.
A: Correct. Zen Faulkes, "Yoritomo Matsoru's lock", 20 Feb 2005
