Rules Q&A
- Q: Otomo Taneji has 2 Kuroiban Advisors attached to him. He issues a Storm Heart challenge to a dishonored Akodo Ieshige (or any bloodspeaker with chi < 5). When the duel begins, I bow both advisors to give Ieshige -4C and kill him. Is it correct to say that Taneji will not be dishonored because the duel ended without resolution?
A: Yes, the duel does not have two participants, and thusly can not determine a winner or loser to affect in any way. Martin Lund, "Rules for 5 May 2004", 8 May 2004 - Q: I have the soul of Ryozo in play attacking or defending a province, and I use the favor to move him (Ryozo) to another province. Can I bow Otomo Taneji/Stronghold to keep him from going home, and if so, does he still move to the other province? Assuming of course that I'm using the Right Hand as my wind.
A: Ooooh, Diamond. That's a Jeff question. Zen Faulkes, "Rules for 2 October 2003, Part 2", 3 Oct 2003 - Q: Relevent text:
Situation:
I am defending with Utaku Whoever. My opponent attacks with an Otomo Taneji, who has NINE followers attached. I play A Noble End, targeting Taneji. Taneji dies, netting me 2 honor. Rejoice. Then, one of two things happens:
1 - Since Taneji died, all his followers are destroyed, and battle ends. Yay.
2 - Since Taneji died, all his followers are destroyed........ and by a strict reading of A Noble End's text, I net another 18 honor! Then battle ends. Yay.
I'm fairly certain that option #1 was the intention of the card, but #2 goes by what the cards actually says. So?
A: Comprehensive Rules Glossary, For each: "“For” wording only refers to a specifically named consequence of the effect, not to a consequence arising from a chain of contingent effects." Zen Faulkes, "A Noble End", 22 Jun 2007
