Rules Q&A
- Q: However, if I cancel such a Limited action with (Outmaneuvered by Force/The Time is Not Right/Balance in Nothingness/etc), does the action count as not having resolved, and thus my opponent's next attempt to target my Personalities will still be the "first time" that phase?
A: The action did not resolve, was never even attempted (Diamond rules, pg. 72). Zen Faulkes, "Rules for 17 December 2003, Part 2", 18 Dec 2003 - Q: For the purpuse of Outmaneuvered by Force, do Bowed units at home contribute there force?
A: No (Diamond Edition rulebook, pg. 83). Zen Faulkes, "Rules for 10 November 2003", 10 Nov 2003 - Q: A) Outmaneuvered by Force: Political Reaction: Cancel a Political action taken by a target player with a lower total FORCE than you have in your home.
FORCE refers to force in units (bowed = 0), or cards force (bowed add his force)??
A: It counts the "total Force" of several units, to you use the total unit Force rules. Being bowed will reduce the sum. Jeff Alexander, "post for 6 May 2002", 7 May 2002 - Q: Still, I seem to remember that the head judge in "To the Last Man" (Hi Paul), upon being pointed out the way the rules are worded, ruled differently than what Jeff did; the reasoning being that "Outmaneuvered by Force" certainly isn't counting an army's Force, and doesn't necessarily count "units'" Force, it wants "total Force", which is something that isn't terribly well defined.
A: The total Force of a bunch of units is the sum of their total unit Forces. Being bowed affects Outmaneuvered by Force, too. Jeff Alexander, "post for 29 October 2001", 30 Oct 2001 - Q: viewtopic.php?f=59&t=113749
"The card stays in the province, and your opponent can try to Recruit it again."
Quick question regarding this statement. I assume that the recruitment may only happen in the Dynasty phase then. Since Ivory Courtroom allows to be recruited as Political Open, but not as Political Repeatable Open I assume that you cant try to Recruit the thing again in the Action Phase. Am I right?
A: The ability you use to Recruit the card is still the rulebook Repeatable Dynasty ability, so you may use it again; the action from the ability is then taken as a Political Open action. Alex Jones, "Outmaneuvered by Force + Ivory Courtroom -Follow up 2", 14 May 2015 - Q: Regarding this viewtopic.php?f=59&t=113044&p=1462620&hilit=outmaneuvered+by+force&sid=07df46fdda6908276c7d7c8c48b4914b#p1462620
Will ivory courtroom stay in the province allowing my opponent to purchase it again? or will it get discarded from the province?
A: The card stays in the province, and your opponent can try to Recruit it again.
However, the gold has been spent - it doesn't return to the pool. Alex Jones, "- Outmaneuvered by Force + Ivory Courtroom -Follow up on", 13 May 2015 - Q: Outmaneuvered by Force Political Interrupt: Negate the action if it is Political and taken by a player whose total Force of all units at home is now less than your total Force of all units at home (bowed cards count).
The Ivory Courtroom: After this Holding enters play, take the Imperial Favor and rehonor one of your Personalities (if able). You may Recruit this Holding as a Political Open action. w: Produce 2 Gold.
Can the use of Open recruit of the holding be negated, if conditions are met?
A: Yes, that absolutely will work. Jon Palmer, "Outmaneuvered by Force and The Ivory Courtroom", 23 Mar 2015 - Q: I play a political duel, my opponent plays Outmaneuvered by Force or Dismissed, can it be Keen Eye'd?
A: Archive, Duels. Zen Faulkes, "Questions about Keen Eye", 3 Apr 2005 - Q: If my opponent bows someone to take the Imperial Favor and I play Outmaneuvered by Force to cancel it, does his personality still bow?
A: Yes. Archive, General, Actions: "An action is considered 'taken' or 'used' after it is legally declared, targeted, and paid for." Do those, which would include bowing the Personality as a cost, and then play Outmaneuvered by Force.
(Edit: Correction.) Zen Faulkes, "Question About Bowing for the Favor", 21 Mar 2005
