Rules Q&A
- Q: 1. I declare my intention to attack, and in reaction my opponent plays an Outmaneuvered in Court. Can I Fall on Your Knees this? I don't think I can, since its not a battle action segment, but the declaration of battle.
A: The Diamond Edition Rulebook clearly outlines the separate Segments of the Attack Phase. Outmaneuvered In Court has to be played - well - before the Battle Action Segment. You haven't even completed Infantry Maneuvers or Cavalry Maneuvers yet.
If it isn't the Battle Action Segment, you can't play Fall on Your Knees. (card text) Martin Lund, "Rules for 20 April 2004", 22 Apr 2004 - Q: Can Outmaneuvered in Court be cancelled with Fall on your Knees?
A: No. Wrong segment. Zen Faulkes, "Rules for 22 November 2003", 23 Nov 2003 - Q: Of particular interest is playing Outmaneuvered In Court (OIC) vs Retribution, do they need to select an attacker at the targetting step and thus that person can be stopped from assigning and moving into the battle with OIC
A: No, it does not target a unit. Retribution creates an attack phase (card text), which includes the Maneuvers segments. Zen Faulkes, "Rules for 11 September 2003", 12 Sep 2003 - Q: So Jeff if my opponent Ambushes my peep (bowed or otherwise) and I use Outmaneuvered in Court or the new ability on Naseru to prevent their targeted peep from assigning they cannot get anyone into the Ambush right?
A: This one's in the Archive. Declaration and assignment are handled simultaneously by Ambush. Reactions that are triggered by the declaration of an attack cannot prevent Ambush assignment, becauseby the time you get a chance to React, the thing you wanted to prevent has already happened. Vaughn Derderian, "Rules for August 8th, 2003", 8 Aug 2003 - Q: Here are a couple of rule questions:
First, is Outmaneuvered in Court considered to be played during the Action Phase or the Attack Phase?
A: Outmaneuvered in Court is played "when an attack is declared". [card text] Attacks are declared in the Declaration Segment of the Attack Phase. [GE rulebook, p. 51 and Turn Sequence] This is largely irrelevant to your question... Jeff Alexander, "post for 17 January 2003", 18 Jan 2003
