Rules Q&A
- Q: Assume you have lost 1 or more provinces during the game.
After a province with Overflowing Fields refills, you bow Overflowing Fields to peek at the next card. If it is not a holding, can you still turn it faceup with The Third Yasuki War? (Assuming you haven't refilled using Third Yasuki War this turn already)
A: No.
The Third Yasuki War's indefinite conditional effect is triggered when the province is refilled. Overflowing Fields' Reaction is triggered "after you refill this province".
You may, however, use The Third Yasuki War's effect to refill face-up, bring that card into play and use Overflowing Fields' Reaction when you then refill. Alex Jones, "Third Yasuki War + Overflowing Fields", 7 Feb 2009 - Q: May I target a face-down card with Unexpected Arrival if it's known to me that it is a Personality? (it's known to me from Overflowing Fields, as one example)
If the answer is 'No', does the answer change if it's known to everyone that it's a Personality?
A: The answer is "No" to both. Prior knowledge of what a card is neither helps nor hinders your choices of available targets. Dan Jacobson, "Unexpected Arrival and face-down Personalities.", 5 Feb 2009 - Q: I end my turn by discarding a random card out of my province with an Overflowing Fields attached. Using the Fields' Reaction, I flip a random holding face up. I am allowed to than discard that card from my province?
A: http://rules.l5r.com/Sequence_of_play#Dynasty_Phase: "Before the Dynasty Phase ends, a player may discard any face-up cards in his or her Provinces, one at a time. If an effect refills these cards face-up, he may discard them again." Although Overflowing Fields does not refill face-up (it refills and turns it over), you still end up with a face-up card at that point, and nothing appears to prevent discarding again.
Note, however, that "After the player discards any cards this way, he or she cannot bring further cards into play from Provinces that phase." Zen Faulkes, "Overflowing Fields and end of turn discarding", 29 Dec 2008 - Q: Can Overflowing Fields' reaction trigger from refilling the province immediately after Overflowing Fields is turned over in the Events Phase and attached to the appropriate Province?
A: Yes. Zen Faulkes, "Overflowing Fields entering play", 11 Sep 2007
