Rules Q&A
- Q: About this: viewtopic.php?f=59&t=90808
I wasn't asking about bringing both into play separately.
I'll be more clear than I was in my first post: Can Bayushi Paneki be overlayed by Paneki's Disgrace? (I am not asking if I can bring both into play)
Thank you (again).
A: Yes.
http://rules.l5r.com/CE_Glossary_E#Experienced: "The Experienced keyword may be accompanied by a number that represents the card's experience level, and a name that is an alternate title for the Personality (such as, “Experienced 3 Ginawa.”) ... The alternate title counts in all ways as a second title for the card." Zen Faulkes, "Overlaying and Uniqueness", 16 May 2011 - Q: This question is mainly about Paneki's Disgrace and Bayushi Paneki in CE.
If I have both in my provinces, can I bring Bayushi Paneki and overlay the Disgrace? I'm not sure if the title must be the same to overlay or just the Experienced version.
Relevant Text: Paneki's Disgrace Shadowlands • Undead • Samurai • Tactician • Plague • Experienced 6 Bayushi Paneki • Unique
Bayushi Paneki Scorpion Clan • Clan Champion • Samurai • Tactician • Hero • Experienced 5 • Loyal • Unique
A: http://rules.l5r.com/CE_Glossary_E#Experienced: "Keep in mind that an Experienced card's alternate title also regulates his or her capacity to enter play and change control.
"Example: A player who controls a Unique version of The Golden Ronin with the keyword “Experienced Matsu Ichi” can not bring the Unique non-Experienced version of Matsu Ichi into play, or take control of another player’s Unique version of “Matsu Ichi.”"
I could just as easily rewrite the example:
"Example: A player who controls a Unique version of Paneki's Dissgrace with the keyword “Experienced 5 Bayushi Paneki” can not bring the Unique Experienced 5 version of Bayushi Paneki into play, or take control of another player’s Unique version of “Bayushi Paneki.”" Zen Faulkes, "Overlaying and Uniqueness", 16 May 2011 - Q: Paneki's Disgrace relevant ability: Battle:You may discard a card from the current battlefield's province. Bow a target enemy card. Destroy it if it has no attachments, etc. etc.
Central Castle Text Reaction: After the resolution of an action that one of your personalities performed during battle for which you discarded a card due to its costs or effects: Draw a card.
So, do I get to draw a card with Central Castle if I discard something with Paneki's Disgrace? Or does Central Castle's ability referes only to Fate cards for some reason? Thanks!
A: See Glossary, Discard: As a verb "discard" means: 1. By itself, referring to a Fate card: To remove a card from one's hand and put it in the discard pile. 2. By itself, referring to a Dynasty card: To remove a card from one's Province and put it in the discard pile. 3. A card may also be discarded from other areas than the hand or Provinces, going to the discard pile, but this must be stated explicitly. See Areas of the Game. By default, the phrase "discard a card" has meaning 1, referring to discarding a Fate card from hand.
Thus, since Central Castle does not specify what sort of card is being discarded, it only covers the default of discarding a Fate card from your hand. Alex Jones, "Paneki's Disgrace and Central Castle", 11 Nov 2010 - Q: Just to make sure I'm reading the card correctly, is the proper order for Paneki's Disgrace's battle action:
Battle: You may discard a card from the current battlefield's province. Bow a target enemy card. Destroy it if it has no attachments, you discarded a card, and the enemy card's Gold Cost is lower than the discarded card's Gold Cost.
1. Announce action
2. Target enemy card for bowing
3. Begin resolution
3a. Discard card from current battlefield's province
3b. Bow targeted card
3c. If targeted card meets destruction conditions, destroy it
A: That sequence is correct. Brook Cunningham, "Paneki's Disgrace Timing", 17 Oct 2010
