Rules Q&A
- Q: I have six different questions.
A. Opposing for actions:
My opponent attack my last Province with Kuon. I defend with Koto. I have a bowed Isawa Jun with an attached unbowed Follower at home.
Question A: Can I play Peasant Vengeance to Kuon, bowing Jun’s Follower?
1. Yes. You have presence, meet relevance, cost could be paid, and Koto opposes Kuon, making Kuon “an opposing Infantry Personality with no Followers or Items”
2. No. The Follower performing the Peasant Vengeance must be at the current battle and opposing Kuon
A: The answer is "2." Peasant Vengeance is an Action card (can't be in any army) and its last given reference for "opposing" was "one of your Followers." Ergo, the target must be opposing the Follower you bowed to pay the cost. Martin Lund, "Rules for 20 January 2005", 24 Jan 2005 - Q: I am a little confused by how Shosuro Saemon's reaction works with cards that specifically check for the presence of followers, (such as Refugees, Peasant Vengeance, etc.)
A: "If one or more of an action's targets become illegal between when they are chosen and when the action begins to resolve, that action will not affect those targets. This remains true even if they become illegal, then return to being legal. [JA, 15 June 2004; 22 June 2004]" (Accumulated Rulings, "Actions and abilities")
Saemon says, "Reaction: After another player’s action targets Saemon: Target a Personality you control. Give him a 1F Ninja Follower token."
That happens before the Action begins to resolve effects, so Saemon can cause the effects of such cards to fail against him by using his ability on himself. Martin Lund, "Rules for 27 and 28 December", 4 Jan 2005 - Q: Is Peasant Vengeance an action performed by the follower that bows?
A: Yes (Diamond rules, pg. 71). Zen Faulkes, "Rules for 2 December 2003, Part 2", 3 Dec 2003 - Q: http://www.alderac.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=59&t=60023&p=770354&hilit=Reinforce+the+Gates#p770354
Would the above not also apply to, for example, a Peasant Vengeance off a Naval Follower, or Ruthless Advance if/when negated by Reinforce the Gates?
A: Be more specific. Zen Faulkes, "Reinforce the Gates Negation of Actions", 13 Aug 2007
