Rules Q&A
- Q: Perfect Sacrifice Dark Virtue • Perfection Battle/Limited: Choose your performing Samurai: Give each Personality and Follower in his unit a Force bonus equal to its current Force. Before this turn ends, destroy his unit.
Feign Death Reaction: After the resolution of an action or a battle that destroyed a performing Personality you own: Bring him into play (in your home), ignoring costs and Honor Requirement. Bow him. Dishonor him. Lose 2 Honor.
i tried searching, but didn't find anything about this particular question (sorry if i overlooked it... ).can you Feign Death the samurai you Perfect Sacrifice? ....i assume not because during Perfect Sarcifice resolution the effect of destruction doesn't happen at that moment which is when Feign Death trigger would need to trigger but can't since the samurai isn't destroyed during the resolution of Perfect Sacrifice. was debating about this during a game.... Thanks in advance.
A: You are correct. Because the samurai hasn't been destroyed by the time Perfect Sacrifice finishes resolving, there's no legal trigger for Feign Death. Jon Palmer, "Perfect Sacrifice & Feign Death", 17 Jul 2012 - Q: Hello,
A player brings Masaya using his Open ability and then, during a battle, plays on him Perfect Sacrifice. Those two abilities have the same trigger of their delayed effects ("before this turn ends"). My question: if the active player decides that Masaya's delayed effect precedes the one of Perfect Sacrifice, will Masaya's destruction take place after he lands on top of the Dynasty deck?
Thanks
Perfect Sacrifice Dark Virtue • Perfection Battle/Limited: Choose your performing Samurai: Give each Personality and Follower in his unit a Force bonus equal to its current Force. Before this turn ends, destroy his unit.
Masaya Ronin • Samurai Open: If Masaya is face-up in one of your provinces: Bring him into play, paying all costs and paying 2 less Gold. Before the turn ends, put him on top of your Dynasty deck.
A: If I buy Masaya during the action phase and he gets killed in battle later on will he still come back to the dynasty at the end of the turn?
Yes. As described under Effects in and out of play, "Effects that were activated on a card in play, and then delayed, also apply to the card at the delayed point in time, even if it is no longer in play."
My question: if the active player decides that Masaya's delayed effect precedes the one of Perfect Sacrifice, will Masaya's destruction take place after he lands on top of the Dynasty deck?
No. In this case, because Masaya has gone both face down and out of play, the Tracking Rule means that the delayed destruction effect ends. Alex Jones, "Masaya questions", 5 Jul 2012 - Q: I'd like to know if the "Destroy his unit" at the end of Perfect Sacrifice refers to all cards that receive the force bonus or all cards in his unit at the end of the turn ?
Namely, in a situation where a Personnality with a follower is targeted with Perfect Sacrifice and I later transfer the follower to somebody else with, for instance Shinjo Sarang's ability, would the follower still be destroyed at the end of the turn eventhough he's not in the first personnality's unit anymore ?
Reminder text:
Perfect Sacrifice Dark Virtue * Perfection Battle/Limited: Choose your performing Samurai: Give each Personality and Follower in his unit a Force bonus equal to its current Force. Before this turn ends, destroy his unit.
A: If you manage to transfer a Follower or Followers from the targeted Personality, then they will not be destroyed.
Each effect is independent and only applied when it's trigger occurs. In the case of the destruction effect, it's trigger happens, "Before this turn ends."
At that point the effect checks to see what cards are currently in the unit of the performing Personality, and applies the effects to them separately. (See EE Glossary: Unit) Ben Higgins, "Perfect Sacrifice and Shinjo Sarang", 15 Jun 2012 - Q: Perfect Sacrifice Cost

Battle: If you control any units at the current battlefield, choose your performing dead Samurai: Bring him into play at the current battlefield, paying all costs.
Now question to you fine folk: Perfect Sacrifice does not specify exactly when you are supposed to blow up your guy. In reading it as such, am I able to choose when during the turn I destroy my unit (read, after the resolution of that battle so I can At Any Cost him into another one)?
A: No.
"Before the turn ends" is a precise timing trigger. Think of it as "immediately before the turn ends", or "when the turn is about to end".
See Timing, Triggers for more information. Alex Jones, "Perfect Sacrifice (potentially stupid question incoming)", 15 May 2012 - Q: Regarding this ruling: viewtopic.php?f=59&t=83963
How does this work timing wise? Specifically with this ruling (viewtopic.php?f=59&t=83885) indicating that cards only enter the discard pile after the resolution of the Strategy card.
Relevant cards: Will. Battle: If you control an opposed unit at the current battlefield, target your dead Samurai Personality: Bring him into play there, paying 2 less Gold and ignoring Honor Requirements.
Daigotsu Setsuko: Spider Clan • Shadowlands • Samurai • Paragon • Experienced • Unique • Dark Perfection After Setsuko enters play: Lose 4 Honor and put a Dark Virtue from your discard pile into your hand. Open: Give Setsuko Cavalry, Duelist, or Tactician.
Wouldn't Setsuko have entered play and her trait resolved prior to the action of the Will Strategy card resolving and entering the discard pile? If that is the case, how is it possible for her to put the same Will used to bring her into play into your hand if it has not entered the discard pile yet?
Or does the resolution of Will happen first, and then her entering play trait activate?
A: Setsuko exp cannot retrieve the Will used to bring her into play.
The sequence is: ... Will's resolution begins. Setsuko enters play and her trait resolves. Will's resolution ends. Will enters the discard pile. Alex Jones, "Diagotsu Setsuko XP + Will", 2 Jun 2010
