Rules Q&A
- Q: Permanent Encampment: Do both targets have to be at the current battlefield?
A: http://rules.l5r.com/CE_Battles#Rule_of_Location: "A card in a unit must be at the current battlefield to be targeted by... a Battle action."
Both are targeted. Both are in units. Thus, both must be in the current battlefield. Zen Faulkes, "Permanent Encampment.", 30 May 2011 - Q: How much gold does permanent encampment produce towards paying for peasant armor's limited action?
A: 2. You're paying for an action, not an item. Zen Faulkes, "Permanent Encampment + Peasant Armor", 24 Apr 2010 - Q: If I have an attachment on a personality that has been sent home from a battle, can I use Permanent Encampment to straighten and move the attachment to a personality who is still at the current battlefield?
Or does the exception on the rule of Location only apply if the entire unit moves?
A: Mod nudge: Please use the Search function before asking questions.
Transfering is not moving. Alex Jones, "Permanent Encampment and the Rule of Location", 7 Apr 2010 - Q: Yoritomo Takara Battle/Open: Straighten your target Follower. Battle/Open: Transfer your target Follower to your target Personality.
Enticement: Open: Pay Gold equal to the total Gold Cost of the targeted Personality's unit: Lose 3 Honor. Take control of a target Personality. While you control him, you may not assign his unit to attack and he will not move to attack. Before this turn ends, give control of him to his owner.
Turn 1 Player A has a personality with a follower attached. Player B has Yoritomo Takara and pays Player's A unit cold cost and plays Enticement. Player B transfers Player's A Personality's Follower to Takara with her ability.
End of Turn Player's A personality goes back to it's owner. Question: Who keeps the follower? Player A or Player B?
Question 2: This same question would apply to items with Permanent Encampent if there's a battle. Question: Who keeps the attachment? Player A or Player B? Permanent Encampment Battle: Straighten your target attachment. You may transfer it to your target Personality.
Thanks in advance!
A: http://rules.l5r.com/CE_Physically_mark ... rd_control: "An attached card in a unit is controlled by the unit’s Personality’s controller." Zen Faulkes, "Enticement vs Yoritomo Takara", 14 Feb 2010 - Q: "Permanent Encampment + Seven Waves Mercenaries: Can either or both move onto a personality in the current battle from outside the battle?" "Yes. Nothing limits the transfer to the same location (http://rules.l5r.com/CE_Glossary_T#Transfer or card text)"
Since Transferring isn't movement, doesn't the fact that Permanent Encampment targets mean that you don't meet the first part of the Rule of Location (1. A card in a unit must be at the current battlefield to be targeted by a Battle action.) whilst the action being printed on Seven Waves Mercenaries means you don't meet the second for them (2. If a Battle action is on a card in a unit (a Personality or attachment in play), the unit must be at the current battlefield in order to take that action.)
A: Correct. You cannot satisfy the exception to the Rule of Location by transfering an attachment into the battle; you must move its unit. Alex Jones, "A few questions and Rules and Opinions", 17 Sep 2009 - Q: Permanent Encampment + Seven Waves Mercenaries: Can either or both move onto a personality in the current battle from outside the battle?
A: Yes. Nothing limits the transfer to the same location (http://rules.l5r.com/CE_Glossary_T#Transfer or card text)
Additional: Although nothing limits the transfer to the same location, in this case, targeting is an issue; see posts below. Zen Faulkes, "A few questions and Rules and Opinions", 17 Sep 2009 - Q: Can Permanent Encampment transfer a Heavenly Blade of the Crane to a non-Crane personality? I was pretty sure that it would since it was transferring it and not attaching it, but I thought that I'd double check anyway.
A: No, you cannot.
CE Rulebook pg. 37, definition of Transfer, (emphasis mine) "You do not need to pay the costs of the transferred card, but you do need to meet any restrictions on attaching." Brook Cunningham, "Permanent Encampment weapon transfer legality", 18 Jul 2009 - Q: Permanent Encampment: Does the "your" refer to ownership of the attachment, control of the attachment or both?
A: http://rules.l5r.com/Glossary_X-Z: "When 'your' and other possessive forms such as 'the player’s' or 'his' refer to a card, this means 'controlled by that player' if the card is in play, or 'owned by that player' if the card is not in play." Zen Faulkes, "Permanent Encampment", 10 Jul 2009 - Q: If you use the Battle/Open on Dragon's Guard City to attach a follower, can you use artificers to draw and discard (provided it attached to a Samurai)? Along the same lines, could you produce 3g with a Permanent Encampment for that action? I believe the answer to the first is yes, and the 2nd is no, but not for sure. Thanks
A: The answer is yes, to both.
You are paying the cost of the follower, not the action (unlike Farmlands and Utaku Meadows). Dan Jacobson, "Dragon's Guard City/Imperial Artificers/Permanent Encampment", 6 Jul 2009 - Q: Does Permanent Encampment produce 3 gold when paying for the Utaku Meadows action?
A: No. You're paying for an action, not a Follower. Zen Faulkes, "Permanent Encampment and Utaku Meadows", 5 Jul 2009
