Rules Q&A
- Q: Tsuruko is a 3/3, so how often can you use her Maho Reaction with the Pit of Blood?
A: The cost of her Reaction is a permanent loss of 2 Chi. She only has 3 Chi. If she has less than 2 Chi, she can't successfully pay the cost by giving up 2 Chi. She doesn't have that much. Martin Lund, "Rules for 24 and 25 October 2004", 27 Oct 2004 - Q: If so, can you put a Bloodspeaker under Pit of Blood after wedge?
A: No, you can not. Sometimes (typically battle resolution) multiple eligable personalities will die at the same time and you much choose between them, hence targeting. If an Action targets sometimes, then it targets all the time. Pit of Blood always targets. Martin Lund, "Rules for 9 April 2004", 11 Apr 2004 - Q: If Chuda Masaru (a Bloodspeaker) is destroyed by Shield of Blood, can you put his card underneath the Pit of Blood? The question came up because Chuda Masaru was destroyed as a cost of playing SoB instead of in a battle or duel.
A: Well, Pit of Blood seems to say: "Maho Reaction: When a Bloodspeaker Personality you control dies, put that Personality under Pit of Blood instead of into your discard pile."
And Shield of Blood says: "Maho Kiho Limited: Bow one of your Shugenja or Monks and destroy one of your Personalities ..."
Looks like he can go in the Pit to me. He's being destroyed / dying, and he's a Bloodspeaker. That's all Pit of Blood cares about. Martin Lund, "Rules for 7 April 2004", 8 Apr 2004 - Q: 2. If you use the Pit of Blood to save Shukumei, when you return him to play, does his trait kick off again and give someone -1/-1?
A: Pit of Blood tells you to put him into play. It says to ignore all costs and restrictions. His entering-play effect from his trait is neither a cost nor a restriction, so it triggers. You must give someone -1/-1. Martin Lund, "Rules for 3 April 2004", 4 Apr 2004 - Q: If I use Wedge on a bloodspeaker, then he dies, can I put him underneath the Pit of Blood?
A: No (http://l5r.com/ccg/faq.html#s4). (I say again: There is no way the Rules Junta is going to let anyone get around Wedge's destruction of the unit!) Zen Faulkes, "Rules for 13 December 2003", 13 Dec 2003 - Q: I control Yajinden, the Pit of Blood, and Sacrificial Altar. My opponent controls a random bloodspeaker. I bow Yajinden to take control of said random bloodspeaker, and immediately sacrifice them to the Sacrificial Altar. I react and place the random bloodspeaker under the Pit of Blood. Yajinden unbows. After Yajinden is unbowed, I try to use the Pit of Blood to bring the random bloodspeaker back into play. Who controls the bloodspeaker?
A: The original controller (Diamond rules, pg. 70). Zen Faulkes, "Rules for 30 November 2003", 1 Dec 2003
