Rules Q&A
- Q: plains of resolution Text Singular Open: Bow this card: Your target Samurai contributes force while bowed and will not have his force reduced by other players' cards.
While I understand that negating a bonus isn't a penalty, unless I missed an eratta to PoR I don't see anything that deals with force penalties. I'm not trying to be difficult, but what is the l5r deffinition of a reduction. I searched for it in the rules wiki, but I am on my phone and it is a bit difficult to navigate.
A: Reduce is defined in the Glossary; it is synonymous with decrease, which is the term used in the section under Card Features on Bonuses and Penalties Alex Jones, "Plains of Resolution.", 23 Aug 2011 - Q: Say I play plains of resolution on Akodo Kobi, then proceed to either tactician or Pure Heart for the force pump. If my opponent plays a card such as shameful injury or a card that reduces force. Since my personality is still targeted by the plains would I go back to her force before I force pumped or would the plains still negate the reduction?
A: Plains of Resolution prevents force penalties from other players cards, it does not prevent the negation of force bonuses.
Card features, Bonuses and penalties: When a bonus, penalty, maximum, or minimum ends or is negated, the resulting stat change is not a penalty or bonus. Alex Jones, "Plains of Resolution.", 19 Aug 2011 - Q: If a personality has been targeted by Plains of Resolution then targeted by Shoshuro Akemi, can the personality that has been targeted by plains take the option to reduce his force but not actually have the force reduction happen due to the plains of resolution having targeted the personality already(?)
A: http://rules.l5r.com/CE_Effects#Choices: "A choice may be made even if its consequences would be negated, prevented, or otherwise fail due to lack of suitable things to affect."
Yes. Zen Faulkes, "Shosuro Akemi vs Plains for Resolution", 17 Jul 2010 - Q: Hi
Couldn't see this specifically asked in previous Plains of Resolution topics. If I use a force reduction effect on a personality (e.g. Kitsuki Hanbei's ability) and then my opponent uses the effect of Plains of Resolution on the same personality, will this cancel out the force reduction already applied, or will it just cancel any further reductions?
Plains of Resolution Open: Bow this card: Your target Samurai contributes force while bowed and will not have his force reduced by other players' cards
Kitsuki Hanbei Open: Give -3F to a target Personality with lower Personal Honor than Hanbei's Chi
Thanks
Steve
A: "Will not" is a future tense. Alex Jones, "Plains of Resolution and already resolved force reduction", 6 Jul 2010 - Q: How are these two situations different from each other? Why I'm unable to play Final Duty when I got bowed personality targeted with Plains? Because rulebook says clearly that army total force is force of your unbowed personalities not force you count during resolution. Plains doesn't say that personality contribute force to army total force. Maybe he cotributes in resolution?
A: No, he doesn't JUST contribute in resolution. Because Plains doesn't say "during/in resolution" like Game of Sincerety, it means the Personality contributes his Force while bowed during the Combat Segment TOO. Brook Cunningham, "Plains of Resolution; Game of Sincerity; Final Duty", 7 May 2010 - Q: Could you make some kind of final rule for this and write down grounds of that decision?
A: We already had done:
Contribute: "To add a card's or unit's Force to an army total. Effects allowing or denying contribution apply at any time an army exists, unless restricted to battle resolution." Brook Cunningham, "Plains of Resolution; Game of Sincerity; Final Duty", 7 May 2010 - Q: My interpretation is that in this situation because Personality A has been targeted by plains of resolution, it means that even though he is bowed he still adds his force to the army total when bowed and thus final duty wouldnt be legal to play.
However seeking clarity. Thankyou.
A: Your interpretation is correct. Since Personality A still contributes to his army's Force even when bowed due to Plains of Resolution's effects, if Personality A has more force that the opposing army's Force he may not play Final Duty. Dan Jacobson, "Plains of Resolution and Final duty. Army total force?", 1 Feb 2010 - Q: How does Plains of Resolution interact with force penalties from tokens already in play (i.e. poison tokens)
A: First, effects of tokens are the effects of cards that created them (http://rules.l5r.com/CE_Non-card_physical_game_elements).
Second, tokens are continuous effects (http://rules.l5r.com/CE_Effects#Continuous_effects).
Third, continuous effects are suppressed by a "does not" effect for their duration, and re-assert themselves when the "does not" effect ends (http://rules.l5r.com/CE_Effects#.E2.80. ... s_Negation).
But this says "will not," not "does not." I can't find any rule that says "does not" and "will not" are equivalent, or that "will not" affects past effects. Since "will not" is future tense, that indicates that it only affects future bonuses. Zen Faulkes, "Plains of Resolution and penalties from tokens", 7 Sep 2009
