Rules Q&A
- Q: An opponent I was playing earlier was unsure whether Tairao's penalties would apply if his target is then assigned by Goju Kumoru to a battle generated by Kumoru's ability, citing the ruling from Poison Sake:
I assume that Tairao is different and his penalties will trigger because his ability is only triggered by assignment rather than the controller needing to assign, as is the case with with Poison Sake. Is this correct?
A: That is correct. Tairao doesn't care about who's assigning the Personality. Jon Palmer, "Goju Kumoru and Tairao", 17 Mar 2015 - Q: Poison Sake Text Open, : Bow your target unbowed Courtier or Ninja. Target another player's Personality. After the next time (this turn) his controller assigns him, targets him, or an action from a card in his unit resolves, give him two -1F/-1C Poison tokens.
Ambush Text Limited: Target your unbowed Personality and another player's Personality. Create a battlefield (not at any Province). Assign your Personality to attack there. Assign the other Personality to defend there, even if he is bowed. Other Personalities cannot move there. Fight a battle there (after this action resolves). After the battle ends, lose 5 Honor.
If I play Poison Sake and then ambush or Goju Kumoru the personality will they receive the poison tokens from assignment or will they not since it says they have to assign the personality?
Thank you,
A: The target will not receive Poison tokens, as Ambush/Kumoru is assigning the Personality, not the Personality's controller. Jon Palmer, "Poison sake and Ambush or Goju Kumoru", 27 Feb 2015
