Place a number of +1F/+1C Porcelain tokens on the Porcelain Mask of Fu Leng equal to this Personality's Chi. - Q: Was something left off the Experienced Porcelain Mask of Fu Leng? It says to remove a porcelain token every turn, but doesn't say how to gain them! And what happens if I can't remove any? A: There's no misprint. That text is there solely in case you overlay the Mask over the non-Experienced version, so it still weakens over time. If you play the Experienced Mask directly, it does not get any porcelain tokens to start with. Note that the Experienced version is not destroyed when it has no tokens, so whether you overlay it or play it by itself, once there are no tokens on it, you simply stop removing them. Rules Q&A
- Q: How about cards like the Bone of the Tattered Ear Tribe and Porcelain Mask of Fu Leng (nonexp)? Will they generate more tokens when they reenter play?
A: Yes they will. Martin Lund, "Rules for 13 December 2004", 15 Dec 2004 - Q: I know this has been mentioned on the list before, but I can't find it in the archives:
How does Porcelain Mask of Fu Leng get the tokens in the first place?
A: Porcelain Mask of Fu Leng - Experienced gets it tokens by overlaying the Porcelain Mask of Fu Leng nonexperienced.
That's the only way I'm aware of, unless someone has a crazy scheme to turn Summon the Dead and the Mask into Personalities and then use Sympathetic Energies to move the Porcelain Tokens from Summon the Dead to the Mask.
Where's Leon when you need him, huh? Martin Lund, "Rules for 18 May 2004", 20 May 2004 - Q: When a personality attaches the Porcelain Mask of Fu Leng, does he gain the Shadowlands trait or the Porcelain tokens first?
A: Tokens first. [card text] Jeff Alexander, "post for 12 May 2003", 13 May 2003 - Q: 2. Can Mujina Gang, when being played, discard the Porcelain Mask of Fu Leng?
A: Yes. And since the Mask isn't being destroyed, the Personality does not die. Jeff Alexander, "post for 31 March 2003", 1 Apr 2003 - Q: Porcelain Mask of Fu Leng: Unique. Shadowlands. Lose 4 Honor. Place a number of +1/+1 Porcelain tokens on the Porcelain Mask of Fu Leng equal to this Personality's Chi. This Personality gains the Shadowlands trait and the ability "Battle: Fear 3" while the Porcelain Mask of Fu Leng is attached. The Porcelain Mask of Fu Leng cannot be moved among Personalities. When the Porcelain Mask of Fu Leng is destroyed, destroy this Personality. During each of your Events Phases, remove a Porcelain token. When you remove the last Porcelain token, destroy the Porcelain Mask of Fu Leng.
Shiro Shinjo: Items you own have +1 Focus Value. Reaction: Bow your Stronghold after one of your Personalities is destroyed to return to play an Item that Personality had. Attach the Item to any of your legal Personalities, ignoring costs and entering-play effects.
Would the "cannot be moved among Personalities" clause on the Mask stop Shiro Shinjo's ability from yanking the Porcelain Mask out of the pits of Jigoku and slapping it on someone else?
A: No. You are not moving it from one Personality to another. You are bringing it into play from the discard pile.
Note that the Mask would not get any Porcelain tokens, and you would not lose 4 Honor, as those are both coming-into-play effects.
The Rules Team is currently debating how literally to read the Masks' self-destruction clause. Jeff Alexander, "post for 17 March 2003", 18 Mar 2003 - Q: It takes 4 cards in your deck with the Shadowlands trait to make your deck fully Shadowlands Corrupt.
Because The Porcelain Mask of Fu Leng and the Armor of Shadows (Exp.) both make another card (their attached personality) Shadowlands as well, would having these two cards in the deck count as corrupt since they really make 4 Shadowlands cards in practice?
A: That's up to the story team member who hears about it. Jeff Alexander, "post for 25 June 2002", 26 Jun 2002 - Q: I have a Goblin Warmonger with Goblin Sneaks attached, and the Porcelain Mask of Fu Leng. The last token comes off, and instead of destroying the Warmonger, I destroy the Sneaks. What happens to the mask?
A: It stays destroyed, both by its own text and that of the Warmonger. Jeff Alexander, "post for 10 June 2002", 11 Jun 2002 - Q: "Porcelain Mask of Fu Leng" Unique Shadowlands Lose 4 Honor.
"Mujina Gang" Creature * Cavalry * Lose 3 Honor. After Mujina Gang attaches to a Personality, you must discard one card attached to the Personality.
Now by reading the text of these two cards and the ruling that if a card is discarded not destroyed, I could wait until I had one token left on the Mask, then attach the Mujina Gang, target the Mask as the card to be discarded, and my Personality would not be destroyed.
A: That is correct. Jeff Alexander, "post for 7 June 2002", 8 Jun 2002
