A: This is what I get for being out of the loop for the last two+ months with no computer. >.<
Thank you, sir. Card title duely noted. Brook Cunningham, "Re: Proper Deference vs. Prayer for Guidance", 14 Jul 2011 - Q: I play 3 Favors to gain 6 honor during the action phase. I target one of my Samurai with Prayer for Guidance. I assign him then later bow him due to battle resolution, thus gaining me 3 honor. That is all the honor I gain on my turn. Can my opponent play Proper Deference's reaction to set my honor back down?
Proper Deference Political Reaction: Before a turn ends, if the active player has gained 8 or more Honor this turn, excluding gains from battle resolution: Set his Family Honor equal to its value when the turn began. Draw a card.
Prayer for Guidance Battle/Open: Target your honorable Samurai: After the next time this turn he is destroyed or bowed by another player's action or by battle resolution, gain 3 Honor.
A: EDIT: Ah. Favors. Gotcha.
You seem to be asking if Prayer for Guidance's Honor gain is "from battle resolution", but it is not. It is from the action itself, triggered by something that occurred because of a battle's resolution.
I hope that answers you sufficiently. Brook Cunningham, "Re: Proper Deference vs. Prayer for Guidance", 14 Jul 2011 - Q: I need clarification on this situation: Player A playes Prayer For Guidance on his samurai. Player A declares an atack with the samurai and an opponent(Player B) declares defens with his personalities. In a battle the samurai with Prayer for Guidance becomes dishonorable and battle is tied while the samurai is still there. Now my question is: does the samurai rehonors from a battle resolution and a player gains honor from Prayer for Guidance?
A: Yes.
See Honorable and dishonorable: There are a number of ways to rehonor dishonorable Personalities. * Before a player gains Honor from an action or trait that targeted, came from, or was performed by one or more of his or her dishonorable Personalities, each Personality is rehonored and the player does not gain the Honor. (Dishonorable status is checked when the Personality is targeted, etc. For more details, see References).
Although Battle resolution rehonours him before he is destroyed and after he is destroyed, when the delayed effect of Prayer for Guidance is triggered, he is honourable again, this doesn't matter, because this is not the point in time when his honourable status is checked. Alex Jones, "Prayer for Guidance and Dishonor", 28 Jan 2011 - Q: Player A plays Prayer for Guidance on a target Personality in battle. During the course of the battle, that personality becomes dishonored. Prayer for Guidance resolves when the Personality is sent home. What happens? Does the personality re-honor or does Player A gain 3 Honor?
A: http://rules.l5r.com/CE_Special_wording ... References: "Dishonorable status is checked only at the time the targeting" to determine if a Personality is rehonored.
The Personality was not dishonored when targeted, so cannot rehonor and the honor is gained. Zen Faulkes, "Prayer for Guidance vs Dishonor", 20 Nov 2010 - Q: I play Prayer for Guidance. Another player plays Touch of Ice. Do I get 3 Honor for bowing my samurai?
A: Yes. That it's your choice does not change that it is another player's action. Zen Faulkes, "Prayer for Guidance + Touch of Ice", 31 Aug 2010 - Q: I have a question on the english of Prayer For Guidance.
Target your honorable Samurai: After the next time this turn he is destroyed or bowed by another player's action or by battle resolution, gain 3 Honor
If I'm reading this correctly, Prayer For Guidance has four different triggers.
Target your honorable Samurai: After the next time this turn he is...
*destroyed by another player's action *bowed by another player's action *destroyed by battle resolution *bowed by battle resolution
...gain 3 Honor
Am I interpreting this correctly?
A: Yes. Alex Jones, "The wording of Prayer For Guidance", 23 Nov 2009
