Rulings
- Prevents Honor gains from entering play effects [ML, web, 27 May 2005], but not Reactions to entering play. [ZF, web, 24 May 2004] Rules Archive, August 18, 2007, p. 74
- Erratum: Reads, “Proposal of Peace Until the beginning of your second turn from now, negate all Honor gains for bringing Personalities into play.” [MRP, Samurai Edition, 25 July 2007] Comprehensive Rules, Samurai Edition, with specific card rulings, final version, May 2009, p. 150
Rules Q&A
- Q: On my turn, Proposal of Peace flips. On my opponent's turn, he buys Asako Keiki for full. He does not gain Keiki's personal honor, but does he gain honor from Keiki's reaction?
Relevant Texts
Proposal of Peace Until the beginning of your second turn from now, negate all Honor gains for bringing Personalities into play.
Asako Keiki Reaction: After you bring a Personality into play: Gain 1 Honor.
A: http://rules.l5r.com/Glossary_H#Honor: "Honor gains that are contingent on the card entering play... mean the card has entered play 'gaining Honor,' unless the Honor gain was reduced to zero or negated." Zen Faulkes, "Proposal of Peace + Asako Keiki", 29 Mar 2009 - Q: Do you gain the 1 honor from Taneji under Proposal, since you dont gain honor for 'bringing him into play at full price'?
A: Proposal of Peace says, "negate all Honor gains for bringing Personalities into play."
That is not explicitly limited to the gains generates by buying an in-clan personality without the 2-gold discount during your Dynasty Phase. It includes Personalities with traits like Taneji's. Martin Lund, "Taneji vs Proposal of Peace", 27 May 2005 - Q: Mirumoto Hakahime: Does Proposal of Peace prevent this honor gain?
A: No. Although the Reaction is triggered by entering play, it is not an honor gain directly from entering play (i.e., the gain you get when paying full price for aligned Personalities or from enter play effects; e.g., honor gains written as traits). Precedent: "honor gains from duels" do not include honor gain from Reactions triggered by duels.
(Extension and affirmation of ruling, which I waffled on in some later posts.) Zen Faulkes, "Mirumoto Hakahime vs. Proposal of Peace", 24 May 2005
