Rules Q&A
- Q: If I have both Kan'check and a Purge the Weak in the discard piles, may Kan'check cast the Purge the Weak?
A: No. You can't normally take or perform Actions with Personalities in your Discard Pile. You don't even control those cards. You'd need an ability that specifically allows you to use the card from the Discard Pile. Kan'check only does this for Kiho and Spell cards - not himself. Martin Lund, "Rules for 13 January 2005", 18 Jan 2005 - Q: I am playing City of Tears and I take a battle action. I than react with Purge the Weak. Am I allowed to attached a spell from my hand via the stronghold(?)
A: Yes, you can. Zen Faulkes, "City of Tears and Purge the Weak", 26 Apr 2009 - Q: (I)s that still considered a limited action that I am merely allowed to take in a battle?
A: It's "Equipping Spells is a Battle/Open action for you," not "You may take Limited actions during Battle" or some such. Zen Faulkes, "City of Tears and Purge the Weak", 26 Apr 2009 - Q: According to this post ambush resolves prior to the battle beginning: viewtopic.php?f=59&t=68465
So I could use Purge the Weak to take an additional LIMITED action, after I've played Ambush but before the battle begins?
Thanks
A: Yes, you could take an additional Limited Action before the delayed effect of "fight a battle" that Ambush created gets applied. The delayed effect of "fight a battle" can't be applied until all players have successively passed on the opportunity to play Reactions after Ambush resolved. Martin Lund, "Ambush and Purge the weak", 17 Jun 2008 - Q: If I have two copies of Purge the Weak in play, my first Battle action is to use Draw Your Blade to bow a personality, and then I react in succession to that action with both copies of Purge the Weak, would my opponent be able to react to the first action I am granted by Purge the Weak before I play the action granted by the second one?
A: This is too vague to answer, since it would depend on what the text of the reaction to be played in between. Zen Faulkes, "Multiple Purge the Weak and Timing", 2 Feb 2008 - Q: So my question is this...
Let's say I attack my unicorn opponent. My Stronghold is Eastern Hub Port. My opponent defends against me with several personalities, and defends with Shinjo Isuke at another province.
I declare naval, and take my first action. I attach a follower or item to a naval personality at the opposed battlefield.
First question: Which happens first? My additonal battle action with Eastern Hub Port, or his reaction on Shinjo Isuke?
Second question: What if I also have a "purge the weak" attached to one of my personalities? What would the order be then?
Thanks so much, Evan
A: http://rules.l5r.com/Timing: "If two or more reactions, triggered traits, or rules procedures are triggered at the same point in time, follow this order from A through E to resolve their order."
"E. Apply any triggered traits on cards." That's Eastern Hub Port.
"F. Reactions may now be taken following an action round procedure." That's Shinjo Isuke and Purge the Weak. Zen Faulkes, "Shinjo Isuke vs Eastern Hub Port and Purge the Weak", 21 Sep 2007 - Q: My stronghold is Kyuden Agasha, I play Scroll Cache and attach Purge the Weak. How much gold do I have to play?
A: This one: Zen Faulkes, "Scroll Cache", 31 Mar 2005 - Q: heya all,
I've had some confusion in my deluted little brain about how Purge the Weak works.
"Maho reaction: Once per turn, after one of your Limited, Open, or Battle actions resolves, reduce this shugenja's Chi by 1 to take another action of the same type."
First, is the 1 chi loss permanent?
Second, What does the same Type mean? Does type mean, another battle, limited or open action, or is it more concise than that, and if I were to say, Do a range attack, would it have to be another range attack. Does this care about specialty things, like doing a raid action. If I did a raid battle action, would I be able to do a normal battle action?

Diamond rules, pg. 70: No.

If you take Battle action, you can only take another Battle action. Limited lets you do another Limited. Open lets you do another Open.

Ummmm... Zen where is this coming from?
Does this mean that anyone producing a range attack can shoot anyone, anywhere, anytime? Cause it has NEVER been that way. You need a specific card effect, No Hiding Place for example, to do crazy things like that. Range Attacks target cards opposing the card producing the range attack. Simple as that.
If your going on the entire idea that, RoD doesn't "oppose" anyone, your being uber liberal with the rules, and creating a bad precedent. Though this would then apply to Tsuruchi Tech, as it does not "oppose" another card and it produces a range attack.
I honestly think your wrong in this.
Though I am sure every person playing Castle of the Wasp just wet their pants...
A: You can perform the Tactical Action with a Tactician at any location.
You must, however, still target the Ranged Attack from the Formation against cards in the Current Battle, opposing cards you control.
Oh, and Tsuruchi Technique fails the Rule of Relevance if it targets anything outside of the Current Battle. Zen Faulkes, "A few questions about Purge the Weak", 12 Mar 2005 - Q: Ummmm... Zen where is this coming from?
A: People are trying to make this more general than it is. This is very specific to Rain of Death and how that card is worded.
More specifically, it is a result of trying to tighten the definition of "opposing" down from its traditional, highly context-sensitive usage to one where we can state only one definition for it that accurately covers how the word is used on every single card that doesn't explicitly address "opposing what".
