Rules Q&A
- Q: AS followup to this ruling: viewtopic.php?f=59&t=114071
As I understand, if a card such as Kenturo refers to "Your Ashigaru Conscripts"
If can refer to:
A card entitled Ashigaru Conscripts A card entitled Ashigaru Conscript A card with the keyword "Ashigaru Conscripts" A card with the keyword "Ashigaru Conscript" A card with both the keywords "Ashigaru" and "Conscripts" A card with both the keywords "Ashigaru" and "Conscript"
With this in mind, (the plurals may be pushing it a bit but...), how does something define whether it is referring to one keyword, multiple keywords, or parts of a keyword? By the ruling, we can see you can pluralise a keyword (Conscripts) when referring to a plural and still be referring solely to the keyword "Conscript".
What impact does this have, for example, on Kiyoteru Sensei?
Relevant part of text: When Recruiting Dragons, you may Proclaim them
Is a "Dragon Clan" Personality considered a "Dragon" based on this ruling? If a reference to "Unique Samurai" refers to a full keyword, 2 keywords, and a card title, why does "Dragons" not scale back up to mean anything with "Dragon" in it?
A: Some cards will specifically reference one part of card - for instance, they might say "named X" or "with the X keyword". Those would be limiting references. Anything else should access the three referenceable areas of the card - the title, the subtitle, and the keywords.
You do not split keywords. A multi-word keyword is still only referenced in its whole (such as Clan Champion). Dragon, for purposes of Kiyoteru Sensei, refers to cards with the title "Dragon" (there are none), the subtitle "Dragon" (there are none), or the keyword "Dragon" (there are 5 currently legal).
I do realize that an Oracle search for "Dragon" returns all the Dragon Clan Personalities, as well as Tonbo Jairu - this is because it doesn't differentiate between partial and full keywords. Jon Palmer, "Followup to Ashigaru Conscripts - Keywords, separate/combined", 20 Jun 2015 - Q: Sort of related to this ruling: viewtopic.php?f=59&t=114071
If I'm reading the above ruling correctly (am I?): The card Ashigaru Conscripts can be bowed by Kenturo for his action.
However, Venerable Spirit's first ability is worded slightly differently, it only refers to Conscripts. Can it straighten the card titled Ashigaru Conscripts?
A: Kenturo's ability (and Venerable Spirit's second ability) can target and bow your card with the title Ashigaru Conscripts, as its title makes it a valid target.
However, as the card does not have the Conscripts keyword, it is not valid target for Venerable Spirit's first ability. Alex Jones, "Venerable Spirit + Ashigaru Conscripts", 19 Jun 2015 - Q: RE: viewtopic.php?f=59&t=114071#p1476213
The Follower card titled "Ashigaru Conscripts" doesn't have the Conscripts keyword.
Does that mean that Kenturo can only bow cards with both Ashigaru and Conscript keywords, but can't bow the card "Ashigaru Conscripts"?
Can you do that thing like I asked which would be ever so helpful which is pointing to the appropriate place in the rules that governs this please?
A: You can refer to cards by title, subtitle, a keyword or a group of keywords.
The text you're after for keywords or titles doesn't exist; this is a blindspot in the Rules. Compare the new section on Subtitles which has, "Subtitles can be referred to by game text." Alex Jones, "Kenturo + Ashigaru Conscripts", 15 Jun 2015 - Q: Kenturo: http://imperialassembly.com/oracle/#cardid=12334,#hashid=ecb6a4aed7fbce648de83a63305bb78d,#cardcount=0

Kenturo as a reaction creates token Personalities with the traits of Ashigaru and Conscript. These tokens do not have names as far as I'm aware?
His Battle action is as follows: Battle: Bow one or more of your target unbowed Ashigaru Conscripts. Give a target enemy Follower or Personality a Force penalty equal to the number this bowed.
The only way you have any Ashigaru Conscripts for his action is if playing in alternative formats.
Was this intended?
A: "Ashigaru Conscripts" are cards with the Ashigaru and Conscripts keywords, much in the way Bushido Virtue Strategies are Strategies with the Bushido and Virtue keywords (like Open Emotion), or Nonhuman Shadowlands Personalities are Personalities with the Nonhuman and Shadowlands keywords (such as the Personality required to use Ogre Savagery).
Please note that the created Personalities do have Ashigaru and Conscript as keywords, not traits - it does make a difference in this case. You are correct that the created cards (not tokens, also) do not have titles. Jon Palmer, "Kenturo + Ashigaru Conscripts", 9 Jun 2015 - Q: If my oponent resolves enlistment during his event phase and during his turn I attach a follower to one of my personalities (Traveling Ronin for example). Will I draw an extra card during his end phase?
What if during my oponent turn I attach Ashigaru Conscripts to one of my personalities, when will I get the extra card from the follower, on my oponent's end phase or only during my next turn that haven't even started yet?
Ashigaru Conscripts
Ashigaru • Can only attach to a Samurai. After this card enters play from your hand: You may draw an additional card during your next End Phase. Battle: Bow this card: Ranged 3 Attack. Battle: Bow this card: Give -3 strength to this battlefield's province.
Enlistment
Until the end of the game, during each player's End Phase, he may draw an additional card if he played any Followers from his hand that turn.
A: Enlistment only gives an additional draw to the player whose turn it is. Hence, the "each player's end phase, he may draw ..."
Ashigaru Conscripts gives you an additional draw during your next End Phase, whenever that comes along.
The draws granted by Ashigaru Conscripts and Enlistment are completely independent of one another. If you play Ashigaru Conscripts during your own turn while Enlistment is already in effect, you may draw an additional card for each effect.
