Rules Q&A
- Q: What happens if I play 2x Political Entanglements on a Ratling Conjuror? My understanding, based on the rulings on the Night Medallion is that it becomes: Ratling Conjuror 0F (actually -1F), 0chi, 2g, 0PH (actually -2PH). Cannot attach spells with a gold cost above 1. Open: Bow Ratling Conjuror and discard a card from your hand to give all Ratling Cards -1F.
A: Political Entanglements and the Night Medallion are worded slightly differently. The former reduces a numeral by 1, the other adds +2. For Political Entanglements to exactly parallel Night Medallion, it would have to "add -1" or something.
I'm going to chicken out and leave this one for Jeff. Zen Faulkes, "Rules for 20 August 2003", 20 Aug 2003 - Q: Can Deeds not Words be played during a battle?
No. It does not meet Relevance because it does not set up any new conditions that apply just to that one battle.
What about using a Ratling Conjuror during a battle? If the conjuror is at home, can it be used?
A: You satisfy Presence if you have a unit in that battle.
You satisfy Relevance if the Conjuror is in the battle or if he gives a Force bonus to a Ratling card in the battle.
If you don't satisfy both, the Conjuror is not legal. Jeff Alexander, "post for 7 March 2003", 8 Mar 2003 - Q: 4) This question came up in a VERY close battle involving a local Ratling player. Does Wikki'thich-hie A'tck (which has the bold-faced "Ratling" trait) get +1F from Kan'ok'ticheck and/or Ratling Conjuror?
A: The Conjuror boosts Ratling cards, so "yes" to that one. "No" to Kan'ok'ticheck, though -- he only helps Personalities and Followers. Ancestors are no longer Followers in Gold Edition. Jeff Alexander, "post for 25 February 2003", 26 Feb 2003 - Q: The Ratling Conjurer gives a bonus to all Ratling cards in play. It doesn't matter what type of card it is -- if it's a Ratling card by the Keyword Rule, it gets the bonus. Whether something is an Ancestor or a Follower isn't an issue.
Would, then, a Ratling Villages Region have 1F after using a Ratling Conjuror?
A: GE rulebook, page 32: if something tries to change a value that does not normally exist -- such as the Force of a Region -- the change will fail instead of creating or changing that value. Jeff Alexander, "post for 13 December 2002", 14 Dec 2002 - Q: Talking about some clarifications. I have two different cards with same picture: Ratling Conjuror and Ratling Conjurer
Are they same cards, or maybe i can include 6 (3x2) copies of these ratling shugenjas in my deck?
[Mod edit: Thread title. -ZF]
A: They are the same card.
Really, did you expect anything else?
Before anyone else starts combing through their collections, there are a suite of cards where the basic stats and functions stayed the same, but there were slight changes in titles. For example, "Kharmic" versus "Karmic," "and" versus "&", and so on. They have never been ruled as distinct cards.
So everybody can put the magnifying glasses away. Zen Faulkes, "Ratling conjurer/conjuror", 28 May 2009 - Q: 1) As I understand it, cards focussed in duels, focussed for Tactician, or discarded to pay costs (such as to the Ratling Conjuror) are not 'played' in the way mentioned above. Therefore I cannot use cards from players' discard piles as focusses in duelling or for tacticians or when I need to discard a card for some reason. Is this correct?
A: Correct (unless card text specifies otherwise). Martin Lund, "EomE Questions", 3 Apr 2005 - Q: [LE] are the followers created by Mak'irtch ‘cards’ for the purposes of receiving +1 from Ratling Conjuror?
A: LE Ratling Conjuror's bonus does not specify "cards".
EDIT: Also, yes they ARE cards per his MRP in Tomorrow. Brook Cunningham, "Sun and Moon #rules-questions", 22 Dec 2025
