Rules Q&A
- Q: Reckless Rush:
If I have a terrain (lets say Heart of Darkness) in play, and my opponent plays Reckless Rush, can he target and bow my terrain? And if so, is it destroyed due to it having a 0 gold cost?
It probably doesn't matter, but here's Heart of Darkness:
A: Terrains and other cards outside of units are not enemy cards. Jon Palmer, "Reckless Rush vs Terrains", 16 Feb 2012 - Q: If I play a strategy with an additional cost associated with it, like Reckless Rush, I still have to pay that additional cost correct if Ninja Tricks is played?
Will Ninja Trick negate the effect of straightening my personality?
A: Yes, and yes.
Note the difference between Ninja Tricks and Iron Will, the latter of which not only negates the action's effects but also allows you to ignore the costs.
And the straightening of your Personality is a delayed effect of Reckless Rush, so it would also be negated. Brook Cunningham, "Ninja Tricks", 1 Feb 2012 - Q: Hi Rules Guys,
How would these cards interact if played by different players? Can a personality that performed Reckless Rush be bowed before battle resolution by Heart of Darkness?
Heart of Darkness Before this battle's resolution: Choose and bow zero to two cards at the current battlefield with 4 or greater Force. Battle: If no Terrain is at the current battlefield: Put this card into play there.
Reckless Rush Battle: Bow your performing Personality and target an enemy card without attachments: Bow it. Destroy it if it is an attachment or its base Gold Cost is 0. Before this battle's resolution, straighten your Personality.
Thanks!
Anthony
A: The triggered trait from Heart of Darkness and the delayed effect from Reckless Rush have the same timing, "Before this battle's resolution," and both trigger in Step C of the Timing Sequence, so the active player decides. Alex Jones, "Heart of Darkness vs. Reckless Rush", 25 Jan 2012 - Q: My opponent plays Heart of darkness. I play reckless rush, bowing my 5F personality. Both the bowing from Heart and straighten from Reckless have the same trigger Before this battle's resolution What determines which effect happens first?
Many thanks!
Heart of Darkness ...Before this battle's resolution: Choose and bow zero to two cards at the current battlefield with 4 or greater Force.
Reckless Rush Bow your performing Personality and target an enemy card without attachments: Bow it. Destroy it if it is an attachment or its base Gold Cost is 0. Before this battle's resolution, straighten your Personality.
A: The active player decides, as described under the Timing Sequence, step B: Anything that is triggered at this point but is not a Reaction happens now. This includes triggered traits, delayed effects, indefinite conditional effects, triggered rulebook effects (such as losing Honor after a dishonourable Personality is destroyed). If more than one of these things conflict, the active player decides the order in which they happen.
Heart of Darkness has a triggered trait, while Reckless Rush creates a delayed effect. Alex Jones, "Heart of Darkness vs Reckless Rush", 7 Nov 2011 - Q: if Crippling Weather is in play and I play Reckless Rush with one of my personalities would they straighten right before resolution and stay straight or immediately bow again due to crippling weathers effect?
A: The key to this question is, "When does an action end?" Here, the action ends after the last non-delayed effect; http://rules.l5r.com/CE_Abilities_and_a ... ction_ends
It will bow once from Crippling Weather after the action ends . Then the Delayed Effect of Reckless Rush will straighten the Personality. Zen Faulkes, "Crippling weather and reckless rush", 5 Jul 2011 - Q: This question came up in a game I was playing this weekend.
If Player A slaps down Crippling weather, and then player B decides to play Reckless Rush... Would player B's personality straighten before battle resolution? What about Daidoji Yorio using his own ability in the same situation?
I say they would straighten because Crippling Weather's effect doesn't trigger until the performed action resolves. They are already bowed due to the cost of the action. Also, Crippling Weather says nothing about negating the straightening of people that have performed actions.
Can anyone confirm my interpretation of how it would work?
A: Crippling Weather bows the Performers after the Resolution of the action, which is a part of process of taking the action. During the Resolution step you activate each effect, but they are not necessarily applied immediately: some are delayed until a specified time or trigger after the action ends.
For example, Reckless Rush conditionally creates two or three effects. It bows the target as an immediate, instantaneous effect; it may destroy the target, again as an immediate, instantaneous effect; it unbows the performer as a delayed effect. These are activated during the Resolution step, but only the first two are applied then. After the Resolution step ends, the action ends, and the performer is bowed by Crippling Weather, although this effect fails in this case because the performer is already bowed. Some time later, after all players pass, the Combat Segment of the current battle ends and its Resolution Segment begins: at that point the delayed effect of Reckless Rush is applied, and the performer straightens.
Doji Yorio works in a similar manner. Alex Jones, "Daidoji Yorio or Reckless Rush with Crippling Weather.", 31 May 2011 - Q: Reckless rush: can I target weapon or armor(?)
A: Yes.
http://rules.l5r.com/CE_Card_types#Attachments: "A Personality card is not considered attached to its attachment card. Thus, Followers, Items, Spells, and so on are always 'cards without attachments.'" Zen Faulkes, "Reckless Rush.", 23 May 2011 - Q: Also how many Open actions can you do in one turn?
A: There is no limit. Zen Faulkes, "Reckless Rush.", 23 May 2011 - Q: Celestial edition rules: Active player plays Heart of Darkness, non-Active player plays Reckless Rush - at battle resolution, which resolves first?
A: Same trigger and priority; active-player chooses. Brook Cunningham, "Sun and Moon #rules-questions", 20 Dec 2024
