Rules Q&A
- Q: 6 - How does Seek the Path work with cards like Superior Strategist, Refuge of the Three Sisters... ?
A: Jeff answered a question about this a while back. I'm surprised Seek the Path doesn't have an entry in the Accumulated Rulings because of it.
Anyway, here was what Jeff has to say:
'"Target one of your unbowed Shugenja or Monks before a player searches his or her Fate deck for a card to force that player to draw the top card of his or her Fate deck instead."
He draws his top card instead of searching his entire deck and taking a card of his choice. Only the search-and-take effect is altered -- if whatever is making him search also does other things, those still happen. Martin Lund, "Rules for 8 June 2004", 10 Jun 2004 - Q: Crane player with a Refuge in play uses Show of Good Faith on the Rat's Stone Breaker. Can the Stone Breaker get sacked to the Refuge?
A: Sure. Nothing prevents you from sacrificing Stone Breaker as a cost. You don't have any problems with illegal targets because searching doesn't target anything you find. Prior precedent says that you can search when instructed, regardless of whether or not you can successfully find anything (Isawa Taeruko, Regions of Rokugan, etc.). Martin Lund, "Rules for 14 May 2004", 17 May 2004 - Q: 1. Refuge of the Three Sisters and Exile's Road. Exile's Road becomes an exact copy except for name. There can only be one Refuge of the Three Sister in play at any time. Do i follow Exile's Road text to the letter, or do standard (such as Ninja Shapeshifter) copying rules apply. Does Exile's Road now say that there can only be one in play at a time, or can i have one Refuge and 3 Roads all with the ability of Refuge?
A: You may bring the first Exile's Road into play freely. Its title stays "Exile's Road", so it doesn't violate the Refuge's prohibition against more than one Refuge.
Furthermore, since the Refuge's prohibition is NOT self- referential -- it doesn't refer only to that one particular Refuge card -- that text does NOT become "Only one Exile's Road may be in play at any time." That means you can keep bringing in more Exile's Roads and copying that Refuge with them. Jeff Alexander, "Rulings for 7 February 2001", 9 Feb 2001 - Q: If I used Show of Good Faith to temporarily take control of an opponent's personality, could I do any of the following: Sacrifice the person to Suiteiru no Oni to lose a bunch of honor and make a bunch of podlings? Sacrifice the person to Refuge of the Three Sisters to go get a card?
A: Yes. Yes. Zen Faulkes, "Show of Good Faith", 15 Mar 2005
