Rules Q&A
- Q: Can a player retrieve an Empty Crevasse when Restoring the Doji Treasury resolves? If so, where can she attach it?
Possibile answers: Yes, you can put it on any of your provinces. Yes, you can only put it on the province that revealed RtDT (opponents may not get an Empty Crevasse) No. Yes, to any province in play (quite unlikely).
A: You can put it on any of your provinces. Vaughn Derderian, "Rules for November 15th", 15 Nov 2000 - Q: I think I know my answers, but better to ask than to assume...
#1 A player resolves Restoring the Doji Treasury. I choose to bring an Empty Crevasse into play. Do I get to choose which of my (legal) provinces it attaches to?
#2 I bring Yasuki Otsuka into play and choose to trigger his reaction, targeting a fortification in my discard pile. Do I get to choose which of my (legal) provinces it attaches to?
A: Yes to both, by extension from various other rulings about Fortifications. Alex Jones, "Fortification questions", 29 Jun 2010 - Q: Alright, let me put the card out there then ask the question;
Restoring the Doji Treasury:
Each player may search their dynasty deck for one gold-producing holding, lower its cost by three, and put it into play bowed, paying all remaining costs.
I merely ask, is there an order by which you search? For example, say I know mantis bob plays Temples of Gisei Toshi religiously, could I in fact search for it "first" even though we technically search at the same time? Mainly for the purposes of unique holdings.
A: No sequence is specified, so all the searched-for cards enter play simultaneously.
Using Holdings: Holdings entering play exist in an entering-play area while their requirements are checked and Gold Cost is paid.
This should, as for Personalities, include restrictions; the check for the presence of an in-play copy of the same Unique card is done for all the Holdings in the entering play area, and since there is no such card in play (the entering play area is out of play), the Holdings may all enter play. Alex Jones, "Restoring the Doji Treasury", 3 Sep 2008 - Q: The Rulebook has this to say about bringing in holdings:
Does the bowed bit apply all the time, or just during the Dynasty Phase (like how you get cost reduction or personal honor from a buying a personality only during the Dynasty Phase)?
As Strange Magics doesn't say specifically that a holding bought comes in bowed, and other cards do -like Osei & Restoring the Doji Treasury- I was wondering if either...
* Strange Magics is saving space and Osei, et al. simply have Bowed in their text for clarity's sake,
--OR--
* Strange Magics really does let a holding enter play unbowed and the Bowed clause on Osei & RtDT is actually necessary.
A: It applies all the time. Martin Lund, "Bringing Holdings into play: Strange Magics & Osei", 14 Apr 2005
