Rules Q&A
- Q: Does Hitomi Dajan's ability count Tamori Futaba's Ring?
Hitomi Dajan (Dark Journey Home) Battle: Target a player with a unit in this battle. Dajan gains 1F/1C until the end of the battle for each of that player's Elemental Rings. You cannot target the same player with this action more than once per battle.
Tamori Futaba (Rise of the Shogun) After Futaba enters play, create a blank Ring card in your home. After she leaves play, destroy that Ring.
http://rules.l5r.com/Older_Cards#Card_types For cards printed prior to KHAN'S DEFIANCE: Card types All instances of the term "Elemental Ring(s)" should be considered to read "Ring(s)". [ADDED April 28 2008]
Search gives me Zen's rulings from 2006, prior to the (I assume) Legacy Council's ruling above. Thank you.
A: Yes, Dajan counts Futaba's Ring.
Per the Legacy-interpretation rule you quoted, there is no functional difference between an "Elemental Ring" and a "Ring".
(Fun fact: The Rise of the Shogun expansion in which Futaba appeared actually marks the first set in which the keyword "Elemental" was dropped wholesale from the game.) Brook Cunningham, "Does Hitomi Dajan's ability count Tamori Futaba's Ring?", 1 Dec 2011 - Q: A question concerning Strength from Rise of the Shogun.
Is the restriction on personalities being destroyed at resolution permanent, or does it end at the end of the turn? It would seem that it is permanent from the wording, but that seems way too powerful for a free card, even in Lotus.
A: Only the force bonus is permanent on Strength. Chris Fuchs, "Strength (Dark Virtue) permanent effects", 28 Oct 2006
