Rules Q&A
- Q: Second question, and a bit (lot?) sillier... If I make the Hantei the 39th a ninja (via Ronin Dojo or whatever) and then attach a Night Medallion to him, does it now require that the 14th black scroll be destroyed for him to die, making him unkillable (without killing the Night Medallion)?
A: Yes. Strange but true. Jeff Alexander, "post for 27 November 2002", 28 Nov 2002 - Q: Okay...now I have to ask a follow on question. I've checked the rules, the ruling archives, etc. thoroughly, and can't seem to find this written down anywhere. If I temporarily give a personality, say, the Ninja trait (via "Know the Evil" or Ronin Dojo, for example), and while they have that trait, attach an item that only a Ninja can attach (for example, Poison Dartgun), what happens when the trait wears off? Does the Dartgun:
3. Stay and can be used freely for the rest of game?
A: That one. The Shugenja/Spell thing is a special case, ditto for Ancestors. The general rule is that once something has entered play or been attached, any conditions that were necessary for its initial play are irrelevant to its continued existence. Vaughn Derderian, "Rules for July 3rd", 3 Jul 2001 - Q: What matters is card text. Since there exists an Agasha Personality with an alignment other than "Dragon Clan" (Agasha Genai Exp.), "Agasha" is a legal choice.
Gee, you got the easy ones. The original poster didn't even consider the stranger situations with Oath of Fealty or Ronin Dojo. ;} Let's see... in my Unicorn deck I can use Ronin Dojo to give Moto Gaheris the Ninja trait, so he is now a member of another clan. This means when "Agasha Join..." comes up, I can name Moto and get Tsume in for just 2 gold! Woohoo!
(Seems legal, no matter how twisted and wrong it is in concept. ;)
A: You must have missed where I said that it's only the global card set that matters. In-game changes don't. Jeff Alexander, "Rulings for late February 2001", 10 Mar 2001 - Q: Quoth Stefan Lenfest: Also your Ronin Dojo wears off before the event comes up (tho numerous other methods will work)...
How does it wear off? The game isn't over, and unless there was a recent alteration in the rules changes in affiliation are permanent, unlike other changes.
A: Swearing fealty is permanent. Other changes in affiliation are not. Jeff Alexander, "Rulings for late February 2001", 10 Mar 2001 - Q: So what would happen if a "Loyal" personality was targeted by a Ronin Dojo to change it's clan?
A: He'd gain an extra Faction Alignment Trait, per card text. It does not remove any prior traits. Martin Lund, "A clarification of "Loyal"", 23 Mar 2005
