Rules Q&A
- Q: Her traits are : Unicorn Clan Battle Maiden * Samurai * Cavalry * Unique * Soul of Otaku Kamoko Experienced.
Is she consitered an experienced personality, allowing me to dig for her when boundless sight comes up?
A: No.
'The Experience level of the Personality himself may be differnet from the level of the Personality named in the "Soul of ..." trait. When this happens, the level inside the "Soul of ..." trait only matters for matching common names between sets.' (Diamond Edition Rulebook, page 51, "Soul of ..." Personalities)
Utaku Etsumi's card in Diamond Edition is Nonexperienced. Martin Lund, "Rules for 19 April 2004", 21 Apr 2004 - Q: Moto Chagatai exp: Unicorn Clan Champion * Samurai * Cavalry * Experienced * Unique Reaction: Once per turn, when another player moves a unit into or out of the current battle, move one of your Unicorn Clan Personalities into the current battle from any location or from the current battle to another Province.
Does the above text mean that if another player sends home one of *my* units, I can then use his ability?
A: Yes. You can use his Reaction after any other player moves any unit in or out of the current battle. Jeff Alexander, "post for 28 April 2003", 29 Apr 2003 - Q: I have a question with:
Shinjo Noriyori (Broken Blades) Unicorn Clan Magistrate. Samurai. Cavalry Reaction: After assigning Noriyori to an attacking army, he gains a 1F Cavalry Follower token.
Does the 1F Follower token stays in play after the battle? Or does it goes out at the end of the turn?
A: Tokens last forever. [p. 39] Jeff Alexander, "post for 5 September 2002", 6 Sep 2002 - Q: How about:
5) Samurai Cavalry - Why do we get Samurai Infantry, but no Samurai Cavalry?
A: Ideally, you'd have gotten none. They're both horribly overcosted cards. You got the Warriors because WotC felt both these cards were canonical specimens that typified the flavor of the L5R game world and wouldn't let them both be omitted. Jeff Alexander, "post for 6 May 2002", 7 May 2002 - Q: And by the rule of Foo, do these rulings also apply to Samurai Warriors and Samurai Cavalry?
A: Yes. They have ever since Imperial Edition.
Yeesh. Why did people wait five years to ask these questions? I know it's Tax Time, but I didn't figure procrastination was that contageous. Jeff Alexander, "post for 8 April 2002", 9 Apr 2002 - Q: Why does Samurai Warriors make it into Gold, but Samurai Cavalry doesn't?
A: WotC Brand decision. Jeff Alexander, "post for 19 February 2002", 20 Feb 2002 - Q: Riddle of Rebirth Limited: Bow your performing Henshin, remove this card from the game, and target a Personality that shares a keyword with your Henshin: Put all cards in the target's unit at the bottom of his owner's appropriate decks in any order.
Assuming i have a monk/henshin/cavalry on my side and the opponent have 2 personality, Peep A has Cavalry / Monk and Peep B has Samurai / Cavalry.
When I use Riddle of rebirth, lets say I target peep A, do i have to announce that I'm targetting using the same Monk traits? If I dont, does that mean that the opponent may chugo seido the riddle to Peep B, to trigger the shared Cavalry keyword instead?
A: There is no choice of a keyword, only a check to make sure they share one for targeting legality. Your opponent may redirect to any Personality that shares any keyword with your Henshin, not only one who shares the same keyword as the original target. Jon Palmer, "Riddle of Rebirth and keywords", 27 Dec 2012 - Q: Utaku Kohana is in an opposed battle. I play shamful&cowardly to give two enemy personalities -3F. Do I gain 1 honor or 2 honor? I looked this up under "Kohana" and "cowardly" and I didn't see anything relevant. I'm assuming that it's one penalty since it comes from one source.

Utaku Kohana EXP.
Unicorn Clan • Samurai • Cavalry • Battle Maiden • Paragon • Experienced • Unique After the resolution of an action which gave a Force penalty to any enemy cards at the current battlefield, if Kohana is there: Gain 1 Honor. Battle: Bow Kohana: Bow a target enemy Personality with lower Personal Honor.
Shameful&Cowardly Political Battle: Dishonor one or two target enemy Personalities. Give each target -3F.
A: You gain 1 honour.
Kohana's trait is triggered by an action (which caused a force penalty), not by a force penalty (from an action). Shameful and Cowardly is one action which creates two force penalties, so the trait triggers once. Alex Jones, "Utaku Kohana EXP&Force Penalty", 21 Jul 2011
