Rules Q&A
- Q: I asked a question about Tenshu Sensei and Senpet Scimitar on October 5th.
Yahoo message ID 54551 on the archve, title [L5R-CCG] [rules] tenshu sensei + Senpet Scimitar
Essentially, the question was this. Berserker + Senpet Scimitar: does it get an extra +1 on the Tenshu Sensei force bonus for being opposed when you have the Scimitar attached?
A: [MARTY] Tenshu Sensei gives the opposed Personality a +2F bonus. Since the Personality is opposed and gets a bonus, that bonus is increased by 1 by the Senpet Scimitar, as per the Scimitar's card text.
- Marty Lund Deputy Rules Monkey Martin Lund, "Rules for 11 October 2004", 13 Oct 2004 - Q: I just have a question regarding Senpet Scimitar. I was reading through the accumulated rulings and it stated that:
Senpet Scimitar Gives +5F if attached during battle. [ML, 24 May 2004]
But does this mean only if it is attached as a battle action, or does it mean simply that it gets this bonus no matter what, so long as the personality is opposed and is currently in a battle?
A: You'll only increase the +4 bonus the Scimitar gives to its Personality if you start getting the bonus "while opposing." So, yes, you'll have to attach it or move it during the battle to get the extra +1. Martin Lund, "Rules for 23 June 2004", 27 Jun 2004 - Q: Okay, here's the situation. I have a dishonored Hida Daizu with a Senpet Scimitar in play in a battle where he is opposed. I play Deathseeker's Oath on him.
Question 1: At the moment, Hida Daizu is unarguably at 10 force. (4F +4 from Senpet Scimitar, +1 from Deathseeker's Oath, +1 more because DSOath is increased by one due to Senpet Scimitar.) However, how long does that last? Does Daizu become 9 force again once he is no longer opposed?
A: Yes. The duration of the increase is, "While opposed." If you cease to be oppsed, the duration expires. Martin Lund, "Rules for 15 June 2004", 18 Jun 2004 - Q: I have a question in a similar line. Can Toritaka Kitao(can't spell diamond legal guy off top off my head.)attach the scimitar and still be honorable since he cancels the action dishonoring him not the attachment?
A: Yes, Hiruma Ashihei can successfully attach Senpet Scimitar. None of the effects of the Action dishonor him. The trait of the card being attached dishonors him, and that's not part of any Action.
Same deal with Force Bonuses from Items when you attach them - they don't qualify as "A Force Bonus from an Action." Martin Lund, "Rules for 1 May 2004", 4 Jun 2004 - Q: If I attach either a Senpet Scimitar or Yobanjin Wyrm to Hiruma Ashihei, does he become dishonored, or does his trait prevent the dishonoring? I'm saying no, unfortunately...
A: No. There is no Action producing a dishonoring effect. There is only a Trait on the Scimitar itself. Ashihei can't stop it. Martin Lund, "Rules for 30 May 2004", 2 Jun 2004 - Q: 2.) Has there been any decision regarding the Moto Gurban/Senpet Scimitar interaction, that came up about a month ago, as of yet?
A: Well, since the Scimitar can increase itself in battle, sure, it can increase Gurban's bonus in battle too. If you manage to attach the Scimitar to her in battle while she it opposed, it will increase the bonus she gets from it from +4 to +5 and the bonus she gets from herself from +1 to +2. Martin Lund, "Rules for 19 May 2004", 22 May 2004 - Q: Here my Questions:
1. If Kaiu Hisayuki has a Senpet Scimitar does this make the force bonuses from action increased by 2?
2. How about Kaiu Hisayuki on the effect of Heart of a Hero?
3. And what if i played 2 Heart of a Hero?
just want to ask if they are cumulative.
A: They are separate opperations.
If something tells you to add one, and something else tells you to add one, you've added a total of two.
If you have an Action that would be increased by both Hisayuki and something else, both increases happen. Two Heart of a Hero would work too. Each gives +3. That's a total of +6 in the end. Martin Lund, "Cumulative?", 10 Mar 2005
