- If returned into play with its trait, it remains under the control of its current controller (Joining and changing controllers), even that player was controlling it due to a card effect, because effects are negated after the card has returned to play and control has switched due to entering play on that player's side. - Negation of permanent effects only occurs after entering play. [ZF, web, 30 April 2005] Rules Archive, August 18, 2007, p. 121
Rules Q&A
- Q: I play a wedge on my Sentei no Oni, my opponent then realises that this will wipe him out...can he then kill my Sentei with out fear of my ability to blow his army to bits due to wedge's 'can't be targeted' restriction...or does using sentei's ability (which doesn't say it targets) by pass the wedge's restriction? Just asking for the clarification so i can show my playgroup here and stop them arguing.... : ) thanks for your time yet again guys...
A: An action only targets something if it explicitly uses the word "target" and says it targets that thing (from the linked definition above: "The word “target” must appear as a verb or an adjective for the procedure to be considered targeting..."). The only restriction Wedge imposes is that (in your example) you can no longer target your Sentei. Sentei's Reaction does not target itself, so it's still legal to take after you've Wedged the Oni. Brook Cunningham, "wedge and sentei", 18 May 2008 - Q: And grounds for my question is Sentei no Oni
A: Lotus rules, pg 78, and Rules Archive, Sentei no Oni: :"Its ability may be used any number of times per turn." Zen Faulkes, "Sentai No Oni ability and once per turn", 27 May 2007 - Q: For Sentei no Oni, what happens if you use the Egg of P'an Ku to copy Sentei no Oni and he dies?
A: The Egg remains Sentai no Oni; I've already ruled this within the last couple of days but because the forum search is busted, will take some time to find it. Zen Faulkes, "Questions Regarding the new Shadowlands Oni", 11 Apr 2005 - Q: Sentei no Oni question:
The pic of Sentei no Oni says: "Battle: Target an opposing non-Unique card. Destroy it. If you used this ability previously this battle, move Sentei no Oni home before the Resolution segment."
This means that if he uses the ability twice, he still is not sent home until just before the Resolution segment, correct? He can thus destroy an entire opposing army provided he survives long enough and there are no Unique personalities in the opposing army (since you can get rid of Unique Items, Followers, and Spells on a non-Unique Personality by just destroying the Personality)?
A: Correct. Martin Lund, "EomE Questions", 3 Apr 2005
