Rules Q&A
- Q: (D)oes Unfamiliar Ground target each card that it bows?
A: No.
http://rules.l5r.com/CE_Glossary_T#Targeting: "The word 'target' must appear as a verb or an adjective for the procedure to be considered targeting" (emphasis added). Zen Faulkes, "Unfamiliar Ground and Setting Sun Strike", 20 May 2010 - Q: Ill do a range attack and he'll Play Setting Sun Strike. Since the action targets him when his force is X would it then destroy him even if he Increases the force of that unit with a setting sun strike?
A: Everything happens in the order written, so...
1. Target Ranged Attack.
2. React with Setting Sun Strike. Resolve immediate effect (+3F).
3. Check force for destruction effect from Ranged Attack. If it's greater than the Ranged Attack, nothing happens. Zen Faulkes, "Ranged Attacks Vs Force Reactions.", 25 Feb 2010 - Q: 1) Must Heavy Elite target an "enemy card" or an "enemy card with equal or lower force"?
A: The latter; "with equal or lower force" is part of the targeting requirement. Brook Cunningham, "Heavy Elite vs. Setting Sun Strike", 13 Feb 2010 - Q: 2) My opponent uses Heavy Elite's (5F) action on my Hida Kaoru (4F) and I react to the targeting with Setting Sun Strike. After Announce, Targeting, Costs, when going to "Resolve Effects", does Heavy Elite's destroy resolve unsuccessfully because Kaoru no longer meets the destroy requirements even though she met the targeting requirements, as they are all in the same sentence?
A: Playing Setting Sun Strike will NOT stop Heavy Elite's destruction effect. There are no requirements on the destruction. If there were, the effect would be worded something like, "If X is true, destroy the target". The requirements are only on the targeting. Brook Cunningham, "Heavy Elite vs. Setting Sun Strike", 13 Feb 2010 - Q: 3) Am I correct in understanding that the "Draw a Card." effect of Heavy Elite occurs regardless of the success of the destroy effect?
A: Yes. Brook Cunningham, "Heavy Elite vs. Setting Sun Strike", 13 Feb 2010 - Q: [SE] Can someone clarify setting sun strike for me. Does the straightening mean the personality counts his force at battle resolution?
A: So, SSS creates a delayed effect that straightens the Personality just before the battle's resolution begins. Therefore, if he becomes bowed by anything else during the battle, he'll be straightened again at the end, and therefore contribute Force because he's not bowed during resolution.
