Rules Q&A
- Q: Salutations. So, I was messing around on the oracle earlier, and I noticed that while Zenathaar and Chaldera are listed as Unaligned, Shabura is listed as Naga for clan. This, combined with the fact that Shabura and Chaldera have the Naga mon and border, lead to a slight confusion for me (and potentially others). 1)Which, if any, of these three are Unaligned, and which, if any, are Naga clan? 2)According to the comprehensive rules, it seems Naga is not a clan alligiance, but does that mean that it is not a clan at all, or just not a clan with a SH?
As far as I can tell, all three personalities are Unaligned, but I wished for more official clarification.
A: Naga is not currently a clan alignment. If a Personality's clan alignment is listed in the Oracle as "Naga", this is only relevant in Legacy or Big Deck games.
Shabura is effectively unaligned in Ivory and Twenty Festivals, as they have been in any non-Open/Legacy/etc format since Gold Edition.
Zenathaar and Chaldera have the Naga alignment in formats where Naga is a valid clan alignment. Alex Jones, "Naga and Unaligned in 20f", 23 Feb 2015 - Q: Shabura [Promo]

I understand the rules policy has been relaxed somewhat to permit the asking of questions about officially previewed cards. I therefore have a couple of quick questions about Shabura:
a) If I my stronghold is the Fruitful Port of the Mantis (a Mantis-Clan stronghold), and I recruit Shabura from my province (absent other cards, actions, interrupts, or shennanigans), what is the gold cost I must pay? 8 gc, or 10 gc? (I.E., does Shabura have a clan keyword, or is she unaligned? There is no spelled-out clan keyword, but looking at the mon she appears to have a printed clan keyword... .)
b) If the answer to the above is 10 gc because Shabura has a clan mon, and I am drafting, can I choose whatever clan Shabura belongs to (assumption in that case would be "Naga Clan", but you know what they say about assumptions...) as one of my clans? (For flavour reasons / tournament reporting reasons, even if I do not draft (or cannot draft) any cards with her clan keyword?)
Thanks!
A: a) If you're playing by Ivory Edition rules, you pay 8. Under those rules, only the 9 great Clans are Clan Alignments. Her funtastic border only counts as a Clan Alignment in Legacy/Big Deck play, by their separate rules. Brook Cunningham, "Gold Cost and draft clan choice?", 23 Jul 2014
