Rules Q&A
- Q: Badge of Purity
Will not attach to a Shadowlands Personality. Reaction: Bow Badge of Purity before this Personality receives a Chi penalty to negate the effect or destroy the token creating the penalty.
VS
choke the soul "Limited: Bow this Shugenja and destroy this Spell to target a Personality. Until that Personality leaves play, he or she permamently has -2C immediately before bowing as the cost of an action. If the Personality dies, cancel that action."
contemplation of Osano-wo Open: Bow this Shugenja to make all players draw one card or to make all players discard one Fate card of their choice. This Shugenja loses 2 Chi permanently.
Drain soul Maho Open: bow this shugenja to bow a personality with less chi. This shugneja permanently loses chi equal to the difference between thatpersonalities chi and his or her own. You may not take this action during a battle. Lose 2 honor.
and with the new follower shashiki warashi
what happend with this chi loses when this Penalty is permanently if i use the Badge of Purity?
A: The Chi loss on all these cards is an effect. It would be negated. Everything else would still happen. Jeff Alexander, "post for 28 March 2003", 31 Mar 2003 - Q: can is use Badge of Purity with Bayushi Yogiro exp2 to raise the family honor and don't lose chi?
A: No. That IS a cost: "permanently lower Yojiro's Chi by 1 TO ..." If you negate it, you either have to pay it again or let his action be canceled. Jeff Alexander, "post for 28 March 2003", 31 Mar 2003 - Q: This seems like a silly question to ask but I like clarity.
Badge of Purity:
A: It negates the penalty only. Jeff Alexander, "post for 27 March 2003", 28 Mar 2003 - Q: What targets: Badge Of Purity?
A: The effect it's negating or the token it's destroying. Jeff Alexander, "post for 21 March 2003", 22 Mar 2003 - Q: My own reading of the cards is that Badge of Purity would have no effect. Nothing has happened to the duelist's chi. It's just no longer being used as the stat in the duel.
A: Face Me! does not say "this duel is a duel of Personal Honor". It says "Replace [both duelists'] Chi with their Personal Honor until the duel ends." That's (probably) a change to their Chi stat, and that change is a penalty if it's bringing her Chi to a lower number. Jeff Alexander, "post for 4 September 2002", 5 Sep 2002 - Q: Question about Badge of Purity and Face Me!. Badge of Purity: Reaction: Bow Badge of Purity before this Personality receives a Chi penalty to negate the effect or destroy the token creating the penalty. Face Me!: Reaction: Play after one of your challenged Personalities enters a duel and target both duelists. Replace their Chi with their Personal Honor until the duel ends. Situation, personality A with a Badge of Purity attached challenges personality B. Personality B's controler plays Face Me! Personality A's Personal Honour is less than his current Chi so he is receiving a Chi penalty due to Face Me!. Personality A's controller bows the Badge of Purity to "negate the effect... creating the penalty". Question: What is negated? Obviously personality A's Chi & personal Honour remain unchanged but do personality B's Chi and Personal Honour still switch? My reading of Face Me! would seem to say that because the switching effect is simultaneous on both personalities that neither personality would have their stats switched but I'd like a clarification on that.
A: Badge of Purity only negates the penalty to its own Personality. Jeff Alexander, "post for 3 September 2002", 4 Sep 2002 - Q: Bayushi Yojiro (Exp2)
Open: If you have no Shadowlands cards in play, permanently lower Yojiro's Chi by 1 to raise your Family Honor to your starting Family Honor. This is not considered an Honor gain.
Can I use an attached Badge of Purity to negate the loss of chi, while "gaining" the honor?
A: No. The way Yojiro is worded, his Chi loss is a cost of that action. If you prevent him from paying the cost, the action is canceled. [p. 45] Jeff Alexander, "post for 29 August 2002", 30 Aug 2002 - Q: A similar ruling was made regarding Drain the Soul and Badge of Purity.
A: With Drain the Soul, the Chi loss isn't a cost. (Yojiro's ability is atypical in that the loss is a cost.) Jeff Alexander, "post for 29 August 2002", 30 Aug 2002 - Q: If a shugenja has both the Badge of Purity and Drain the Soul attached, if the shugenja casts the spell and then bows the badge to negate the chi loss caused by the spell, is the ENTIRE effect of the spell negated, or only the chi loss?
A: Only the Chi loss. Jeff Alexander, "post for 27 August 2002", 28 Aug 2002
