Rules Q&A
- Q: I'm not sure if this was covered already but shouldn't Shahai be exp 2? rather than exp as listed on the WoL card?
A: "Is distinct from Iuchi Shahai (Experienced). [ZF, 6 June 2001] May not be overlayed on a non-Experienced Iuchi Shahai. [JA, 8 June 2001]" (Accumulated Rulings, "Shahai")
"Shahai" and "Iuchi Shahai" are distinct cards, just like Yasuki Hachi and Daidoji Hach are distinct cards. Just because Shahai counts as Iuchi Shahai for Uniqueness does not mean she is the same card.
"Shahai" is a Unique, Nonexperienced Personality. Martin Lund, "Rules for 7 December 2004", 10 Dec 2004 - Q: That is what is confusing me, I guess: WHY is she not experienced?
A: We thought it was a trivial point? We weren't sure at first whether the Gold tournament format would use the same grandfather clause for Experienced personalities that Jade did? We wanted to minimize Gold Edition references to pre-Gold cards to (heh) minimize confusion? We didn't want people buying extra packs looking for the nonexistant Gold Edition non-Experienced Shahai? We couldn't decide whether to make her the Experienced Iuchi Shahai or the Experienced Dark Daughter of Fu Leng?
Take your pick. Jeff Alexander, "replies to 14 June", 20 Jun 2001 - Q: << We could MRP it as Unique, but MRPing cards purely for storyline reasons has, in my opinion, caused more harm than good in the past, and it's something I've tried to avoid entirely in Gold Edition.
If this is the case, can you explain Daidoji Hachi to me, please? Surely he was not *so* good with the Iron Fortress that he was MRP'd in order to balance him. After all, he made the Stronghold playable - but without him, the Iron Fortress appears to be a complete waste of cardboard. What happened?
A: Daidoji Hachi wasn't MRPed. His "Soul of..." card is a new card. Text on it doesn't affect the original from which it was templated. This case isn't like Togashi Hoshi, who lost the Dragon Clan trait whether you played him in a Jade-legal deck or not. Jeff Alexander, "replies to 9 June (and one from 8)", 13 Jun 2001
