Rules Q&A
- Q: After looking at this thread, something came up to me: his force is 10, and it is considering his +3f bonus. Does that mean that, if he goes to a battle with another personality, his force will be reduced to 7?
thanks
A: Yes. Zen Faulkes, "Clarification Shiba Aikune (xp 3) x Arr of the Obsidian Ch.", 15 Apr 2008 - Q: If I target Moto Chagatai Exp. 4 with Furious Assault and he decides to move home, will he go or his trait will keep him in battle?
A: If it's another players action, he stays (and is promptly destroyed by Furious Assault). Traits are not optional. Zen Faulkes, "Furious Assault vs. Moto Chagatai/Shiba Aikune", 24 Mar 2008 - Q: What If I target Shiba Aikune Exp. 3 while he's alone?
A: Same thing. The trait is not optional, and Furious Assault looks for an effect, not a decision. Zen Faulkes, "Furious Assault vs. Moto Chagatai/Shiba Aikune", 24 Mar 2008 - Q: Shiba Aikune (Experienced 3): (Can he) destroy two opposing cards by destroying himself.
A: Yes. Targeting comes before costs. Zen Faulkes, "Shiba Aikune and Self-Paying his ability", 8 Feb 2008 - Q: (If Shiba Aikune (Experienced 3) is) the only personality in the enemy army, can I bow him with Temple of Death's Battle action?
A: No.
http://rules.l5r.com/Card_types#Stronghold: "Example 2: A Reaction trigger states 'After an effect from another player's card targets one of your cards:' This can be used in reaction to another player's Stronghold effect because the Stronghold's effects come from a card." Zen Faulkes, "Shiba Aikune (Exp 3) x Temple of Death", 29 Jan 2008 - Q: if i use arrival on (Shiba Aikune Experienced 3) will he be at the set 10 force or will this trait knock him up to 13?
A: 10.
http://rules.l5r.com/Card_features#Gene ... bout_stats: "Various effects will set a stat to some particular value, such as effects that switch or copy stats. To set a stat to a value, give an appropriate bonus or penalty.
"Example: A 0F/3C Personality has a +1C weapon attached. An effect switches the Personality's Force and Chi. The Personality's Force gains +4F, and Chi receives -4C. Because the weapon's bonus is already part of the stat, it is not reapplied, and the Personality is destroyed due to having 0C." Zen Faulkes, "shiba aikune exp 3 & arrival of the obsidian champion", 25 Jan 2008 - Q: in regards to viewtopic.php?f=59&t=63898 how does Shiba Aikune xp3 get away with using his battle ability?
Shiba Aikune: Battle: Any number of times per turn, destroy a Personality in Aikune's army: Destroy two target cards opposing Aikune with no attachments.
Perform: A Personality or Follower is performing an action if its controller is the player taking the action, and any of these things is true:
* The action comes from an ability on the Personality or Follower. * The action comes from an ability on an Item or Spell in the Personality’s unit. * The Personality or Follower was targeted by targeting in the ability’s constraints block (between the two colons).
Costs or other restrictions that are added to an action, and involve targeting a Personality, do not mean that the Personality thus targeted is performing the action. The targeting must come from the base wording of the ability.
Naval: Reaction: If you are the Attacker and your current army has more Naval cards than the opposing army, once per battle after engaging: You have the first opportunity to take a Battle action, which must be performed by a target Naval Personality or one of his Naval Followers.
emphasis all mine.
So if I'm not mistaken, Aikune never actually targets your guy hence it cannot be a naval action, no?
A: Though my initial post did have the qualifier, "providing it targets...", I totally missed that Aikune's ability doesn't target. Sorry. Fixed now. Zen Faulkes, "re: Shiba Aikune xp3 + Naval", 6 Dec 2007 - Q: If I'm attacking with Shiba Aikune xp3 and a random Bob Naval personality, can I declare a naval invasion and play Aikune's Battle action targeting the Naval personality?
A: Note there is no such thing as a "Naval invasion" any more.
Assuming you are referring to the default player ability, not, the Experienced 3 Shiba Aikune can not use his ability, because it does not target a Naval Personality. (Fixed.)
If it did target, it would work. The rules for determining what performs something are not mutually exclusive: more than one Personality or Follower can perform an action.
See also http://rules.l5r.com/Glossary_N#Naval. Zen Faulkes, "Shiba Aikune xp3 + Naval", 6 Dec 2007 - Q: Seat of Power´s reaction reads: "Reaction: When an action would target one of your Unique Clan Champion or Daimyo Personalities: The action instead targets another of your legal Personalities with the same Clan alignment at his location."
When an action (for example Shiba Aikune XP 3: "Battle: Any number of times per turn, destroy a Personality in Aikune's army: Destroy two target cards opposing Aikune with no attachments.") targets two unique Clan Champions / unique Daimyo personalities, can this trigger the reaction on Seat of Power?
A: Certainly. Heck, it provides two triggers for the ability. Of course, you can only use the ability once per turn, so choose wisely. Martin Lund, "Seat of Power / Multiple Targets", 2 Nov 2007 - Q: I play Furious Assault on Shiba Aikune (this game he was on his own, and so couldn't be moved by my card effects). He plays Weigh the Cost to move home. Does Furious Assault kill him?
A: Yes. "If it moved" (past tense) is referring only to the one action, not the entire combat segment. (Fixed.) Zen Faulkes, "Furious Assault", 14 Oct 2007 - Q: So Shiba Aikune (exp 3)cannot be moved by political actions. Toshi Ranbo says political actions cannot be negated at its location.
So what happens if Aikune attacks Toshi Ranbo alone? Can I bow or move him with political actions or do both cards just cancel each other out?
A: "This can't be Negated," typically trumps, "Negate this effect," or "this card can not be [insert effect here]."
In the case of Aikune at Toshi Ranbo, political actions can bow or move him. Martin Lund, "Shiba Aikune(exp 3) vs Toshi Ranbo", 9 Oct 2007 - Q: Shiba Aikune - exp 3: If i use the special ability and destroy Houhou i can bring him back?
A: Yes. Zen Faulkes, "I doubt about Shiba Aikune versus Houhou", 27 May 2007 - Q: If he still Honored, Houhou has a honorably dead?
A: Yes. Zen Faulkes, "I doubt about Shiba Aikune versus Houhou", 27 May 2007
