Rules Q&A
- Q: I am a Phoenix Clan player. It is my Dynasty Phase. Shiba Erena is in my province and I choose to purchase her, and so I bring her into play paying her cost. Now, her trait triggers and wants to make a 2F/2C Phoenix Clan personality. However, for various reasons, I want to stop the personality she is supposed to create from entering play (maybe I don't want to give them a good harpooning/dishonor target).
To accomplish this goal, I choose to raise the created personality's cost to enter play by 2 gold, letting me ignore its honor requirement (I have this option under the rules wiki section "Playing Personalities"). I then choose to not pay the 2 gold.
Does this work? Would it make a difference if I was capable of paying the 2 gold at that time or not?
Thank you.
A: The option to change costs only applies to cards coming into play from Provinces during the Dynasty Phase.
The rules wiki was recently updated to clarify issues around created cards in the Dynasty Phase (http://rules.l5r.com/CE_Sequence_of_play#Dynasty_Phase). The section you are looking at hasn't quite been brought in line with the clarification. Maybe it will be by the time you read this, as I'm just off to the wiki to edit.
