Rules Q&A
- Q: Just to make shure, if I try a flee the darkness that gets canceled with Fall on your kness, and the flee would be my third kiho, I can't put the ring of air in play and Shiba Yoma and Reichin's Helm does not get any bonus.
A: Correct. Martin Lund, "Rules for 24 May 2004", 27 May 2004 - Q: If Shiba Yoma is in a battle and an opposing unit moves out or in, can I Taut Bowstrings and use a ranged attack from a personality with a spell outside the battle?
Ditto with Agasha Chieh exp.
A: Taut Bowstrings is actually a pretty messy card in terms of clear rulings. I'm going to say, "Yes," on both these questions, but I could see it going the other way if Jeff wanted to. Those units are considered opposing when they cast their spell to make their Ranged Attack, so they should be as eligible as anyone else when you check to see if the move is legal. Martin Lund, "Rules for 30 April 2004", 3 May 2004 - Q: The Phoenix player plays sneak attack and bows Isawa Yoriko and casts Kuro's fire. At this point why does Shiba Yoma Exp not Gain the force bonus and Akoko Ieshige does?
Relavent text on Shiba Yoma Exp Immediately before each time a Kiho or Spell is cast while Yoma is in the current battle, he gains +1F/+1C. . Relavent text on Akodo Ieshige. Ieshige gains +1F each time an opposing player takes an action during an Attack Phase.
A: They do both gain the bonus. I don't see where I said otherwise.
Yoma gets the bonus immediately before the Spell is cast. If the Spell is canceled, the bonus goes away -- retroactively, if necessary. So does Ieshige's. Jeff Alexander, "rules for 10 Feb. 2004", 11 Feb 2004 - Q: Agasha Chieh can cast spells into the battle from the outside and I've heard a ruling that you can unbow her with Isawa House Guard because she is ,sort of, into the battle while casting it.
Correct.
Does the same hold for any other Shugenja when Shiba Yoma (exp) is in the current battle?
A: Yes. Jeff Alexander, "rules for 9 Feb. 2004", 10 Feb 2004 - Q: I'm playing Phoenix, using Morning Glory Castle. I have a Shiba Yoma with an experienced version overlayed on top of him. The Shiba Yoma has been hit with a Sinister Transformation so he's 5 force 4 chi. Unfortunately, some unruly peasants rise up and smoke my man Yoma. He's dead. Here's where it gets a bit strange. a turn later I bring the inexperienced Yoma back into a province, and then into play. So what is his force and chi, and why?
A: The inexperienced Yoma cannot be shuffled back into the deck (Gold Edition rulebook, pg, 37). Zen Faulkes, "Rules for 22 September 2003", 22 Sep 2003 - Q: If Shiba Yoma exp is in battle with all shugenja at home or in other provinces and Night Battle is in play, can you take actions in this battle or cast into the battle still?
A: No. Yoma doesn't say, "treat shugenja as if they were present in the battle." Do you have shugenja? No? No actions for you. Zen Faulkes, "Rules for 19 August 2003, Part 2", 20 Aug 2003 - Q: Now, let's say that I have Shiba Yoma in the battle.
A: Yoma doesn't get a bonus from canceled Spells or Kihos. Jeff Alexander, "post for 6 December 2002", 7 Dec 2002
