Rules Q&A
- Q: "Target one or more of your Courtiers"
Assuming I have 3 Courtiers at the battlefield, 1 at home, and 1 at another battlefield. The 3 courtiers are legal targets. Am I able to also target the Courtiers not at the battlefield.
My guess is no, however someone mentioned since it has relevance to the battlefield, and doesn't directly stipulate they may ONLY be at the battlefield, can I target the courtiers not there through the relevancy rule (or something like that)?
Thanks in advance!
A: No, you cannot target Courtiers who are not at the battlefield with Shielding the Command Group.
While there was in previous Edtions, there is no longer any Rule of Relevance.
http://rules.l5r.com/Battles#Combat_Segment: "Battle actions must follow the additional rules of Presence and Location."
Pertinent to your question is the first of the latter's two parts...
http://rules.l5r.com/Battles#Rule_of_Location: "The Rule of Location: This rule has two parts:
1. Any cards in units must be at the current battlefield to be legally targeted by a Battle action."
So, as you guessed, your Courtiers not at the battlefield are not legal targets. Brook Cunningham, "Shielding the Command Group", 20 Aug 2008
