Rules Q&A
- Q: Hi,
I have a doubt about the "Celestial Edition Location rule" during the battle action segment.
Here are the different cases : 1/ I control 3 Shinbone Warriors at the current battlefield. I use the open action : The Shinbone Pack is brought into play at the current battlefield, I think. 2/ I control 3 Shinbone Warriors at the current battlefield and one other at home. 2.1/ May I choose the Shinbone Warriors at home to perform his open action ? I think no because he is not at the current battlefied. 2.2/ I choose one Shinbone Warrior at the current battlefield to perform the open action, may I destroy this way the Shinbone Warrior who his at home (I need to destroy 3 of them) ?
Card Text : Shinbone Warrior Open: Target and destroy 3 Broken Shinbone Tribe cards you control: Search your Dynasty deck, then discard pile, for a Shinbone Pack. Bring it into play at this location, ignoring costs.
Thanks in advance, Rémi.
A: 1. Correct. The effect is worded slightly poorly, since if you destroy the card whose action you are taking for its cost, it is no longer IN a "Location" when the entering play effect checks. So, consider that to be referring to the location when it took the action, which would be the current battlefield in your example.
2.1 and 2.2. No, you cannot target cards at home for the cost when taking the action during a battle, because of the Rule of Location as you surmised. Brook Cunningham, "Celestial Edition Location rule VS Shinbone Warrior", 6 Apr 2010 - Q: I have a question concerning Shinbone Warpack (The Experienced Shinbone Pack from Khan's Defiance).
From Shinbone Warpack:
What happens to the pack if it has say, 3 pack tokens, and is given a -3 chi penalty, bringing it's chi to 0?
From the LE Rulebook:
As I understand it, it would go something like this:
1) Chi = zero, Shinbone Warpack is destroyed.
2) Remove a Pack token to negate the destruction.
3) Chi is still zero, Shinbone Warpack is destroyed.
4) Remove a Pack token to negate the destruction.
5) Chi is still zero, Shinbone Warpack is destroyed.
Rinse and repeat until all Pack tokens have been removed and Warpack is destroyed. Is this correct? Or does the first "Remove a Pack token to negate the destruction." also negate the chi penalty or othwerwise keep the Warpack alive?
Thanks in advance for your help!
A: Wow, this goes right back to the very first FAQ and the Goblin Warmonger.
It's doomed.
You can negate the destruction as much as you want, but if that Chi penalty is still there, it will immediately die again. Zen Faulkes, "Shinbone Warpack", 30 May 2007 - Q: My opponent uses the Shogun's right hand to make my Shinbone warrior singular. I then play a Shinbone Pack. If I pay 2 gold to use my Shinbone pack's search abilty what happens(?)
A: The entering play effect is negated due to the Singular conflict. Zen Faulkes, "Shinbone warrior and singular", 27 May 2007 - Q: [OBH] regarding Shinbone Pack, it says "Search your Dynasty Deck and then Discard pile for a Shinbone Warrior, and [put it into play]"
Are you allowed to decline to find a Shinbone Warrior in your Dynasty Deck even if you have them in there?
A: @kempy_nezumi is incorrect. The final sentence in the CR under #Search (pg 91/92) indicates, "A player may choose to have a search fail even if he or she is able to find the card searched for." Brook Cunningham, "Sun and Moon #rules-questions", 7 Nov 2025
