Rules Q&A
- Q: An opponent declares an attack against me. I have a Shinjo Isuke in play.
My opponent assigns personnalities to attack province A. I assign my Shinjo Isuke to defend province B.
1. Can I use Isuke's reaction whenever my opponent resolves a battle action at province A?
A: Yes. Reactions are not governed by the Rule of Location, and Isuke is "defending" even though his battle is not the one resolving. Brook Cunningham, "Shinjo Isuke", 6 Mar 2009 - Q: 2. My opponent plays Sneak Attack and announces the first action. I react by playing Reinforce the Gates. Can I play Isuke's reaction to his action eventhough I negated the action's effects (is the action still considered "resolved") ?
A: Yes.
http://rules.l5r.com/Abilities_and_actions#D._Action_resolves: "An action resolves even if all its effects are negated or otherwise do not occur." Brook Cunningham, "Shinjo Isuke", 6 Mar 2009 - Q: So my question is this...
Let's say I attack my unicorn opponent. My Stronghold is Eastern Hub Port. My opponent defends against me with several personalities, and defends with Shinjo Isuke at another province.
I declare naval, and take my first action. I attach a follower or item to a naval personality at the opposed battlefield.
First question: Which happens first? My additonal battle action with Eastern Hub Port, or his reaction on Shinjo Isuke?
Second question: What if I also have a "purge the weak" attached to one of my personalities? What would the order be then?
Thanks so much, Evan
A: http://rules.l5r.com/Timing: "If two or more reactions, triggered traits, or rules procedures are triggered at the same point in time, follow this order from A through E to resolve their order."
"E. Apply any triggered traits on cards." That's Eastern Hub Port.
"F. Reactions may now be taken following an action round procedure." That's Shinjo Isuke and Purge the Weak. Zen Faulkes, "Shinjo Isuke vs Eastern Hub Port and Purge the Weak", 21 Sep 2007
