Rulings
- Erratum: Reads, "Banish All Shadows 0G 3FV Kiho Limited: Bow one of your target Shugenja or Monks: Look at the top four cards of your Fate deck. Put one in your hand. Shuffle the deck." [MRP, Samurai Edition, 25 July 2007] Comprehensive Rules, Samurai Edition, with specific card rulings, final version, May 2009, p. 123
Rules Q&A
- Q: I just have a quickie question today: The rules archive on Uona Sensei says that Banish All Shadows may be used. I'd just like to confirm, can I use The Endless Well under Uona Sensei too?
A: Banish All Shadows is allowed because it puts cards in your hand by way of drawing, not searching or retrieval. The Endless Well does not give you draws. It won't work under that Sensei. Jeff Alexander, "post for 7 Oct. 2002", 8 Oct 2002 - Q: Huh. I just checked the rulings, and the most relevant ruling is this:
"You may get multiple cards from the top of your deck (e.g., Banish All Shadows). [VRD, 26 November 2000]"
This isn't the clearest way of putting it. Vaughn, please clarify. Do you mean that you can choose to take any of the four cards with Banish, even under Uona Sensei? If so, why? Doesn't "top" mean the top card only? Shoudn't we rethink both this ruling and the related Otomo Sensei ruling?
A: I don't think so. Because Banish uses the word draw, it implies a very specific effect. Drawing is taking the top card of your deck and putting it into your hand, nothing else. What happens to those cards after they are drawn is irrelevant, but for the fact that they were drawn, not searched for and retrieved. Vaughn Derderian, "Rules for February 2nd", 3 Feb 2001 - Q: * Uona Sensei: does it prevent Banish All Shadows from working? Banish says to "draw the top four cards"; I suppose it still works fully, but would like confirmation.
A: Uona doesn't care about Banish all Shadows. Banish takes four cards off of your deck, one at a time, and that's just fine by Uona. Vaughn Derderian, "Rules for November 26th", 26 Nov 2000 - Q: I resolve Blessings of Isawa then have Kinuye xp cast some Kiho that normally requires bowing, say, Banish All Shadows. Because of her trait she doesn't need to bow for the initial casting, but when she gets the ability imprinted, will it continue to count as a Kiho (and she therefore won't need to bow) or is it now an ability with bowing as part of it's cost?
A: Rules Archive, Blessings of Isawa: "The ability keeps the keywords of the kiho, including 'Kiho.'" Zen Faulkes, "Blessings of Isawa and Asako Kinuye xp", 27 May 2007
