Rules Q&A
- Q: just to verify a simple question of cost and effect.
After the cost of a card and targeting is chosen, if a card has two effects. Does the first effect have to be successful in order for the second one to be triggered?
example: Shiro Daidoji
Cost: your target Personality Effects 1: Range attack with strength equal to his Force. Effect 2: Gain 2 honor
If the range attack in this situation is unsuccessful, would I still gain the 2 honor?
A: This question is often asked. One might even say frequently asked.
http://rules.l5r.com/CE_FAQ#If_one_effe ... _happen.3F: "All effects are independent. Negating one does nothing to the resolution of all the others." Zen Faulkes, "cost and effect", 30 May 2010 - Q: I know for a range attack to be considered successful it has to "kill" it's target, but if I produce a range 2 attack from Shiro Daidoji that doesn't kill someone, is the action now successful because I gained 2 honor?
A: Yes, the action would be successful.
"Success" occurs if at least some of an action's effects produce a change in game state, not necessarily ALL of its effects. Brook Cunningham, "Shiro Daidoji and succesful action", 9 Aug 2009
