Rules Q&A
- Q: Can I declare Proclaim when I use the Shiro Kitsuki ability of bringing an attached samurai into play?
-- Shiro Kitsuki After players reveal Strongholds: Search your Dynasty deck for four different non-Unique Dragon Clan Samurai Personalities. Attach one to each of your provinces, face-down and out of play. Battle: Once per battle, target a face-down Personality attached to one of your provinces: If there are any enemy units at the current battlefield, bring him into play there, ignoring costs. You may take an additional Battle action. Remove the Personality from the game after the battle ends.
Proclaim Reaction: After you bring a Personality in your province with your Clan alignment into play without Clan discount, if it is your turn: Gain Honor equal to his base Personal Honor.
A: No. In the same way that a Region attached to a Province is not considered in that Province, a Personality attached to a province by Shiro Kitsuki is not in the province. Ben Higgins, "Shiro Kitsuki & Proclaim", 19 Mar 2013 - Q: If i'm playing Shiro Kitsuki with Bokkai and Hirohisa under 2 provinces, can i use the battle from the SH to bring Hirohisa into play for free, use his reaction to get Bokkai into play, then duel someone with Bokkai as the aditional action, win and react with him to put Hirohisa under a province again?
A: No.
Note that Bokkai's Reaction can only target a Personality in your discard pile to put under a province. In the sequence you describe above, Hirohisa is at the current battlefield. Brook Cunningham, "Shiro Kitsuki, Mirumoto Bokkai and Mirumoto Hirohisa", 6 Sep 2010 - Q: 1) Are honor requirements for the personalities still required? 2) Do I have to have a presence there for this effect to work? 3) Is it required that I bring a personality into play or is it a choice?
A: 1) You must meet honor requirements for Personalities when bringing them into play in any phase unless card text explicitly tells to you ignore honor requirements or "restrictions". 2) You must have presence at the current battlefield to use the ability. 3) You must bring a personality into play if you use the ability.
The answers for questions 1 and 2 are the results of changes in rules since the card was first printed.
Mod nudge: Please post rules questions for L5R CCG product in the L5R CCG Rules Forum. Thank you! Dan Jacobson, "Errata/rule for Shiro Kitsuki", 31 Mar 2010 - Q: About the Shiro KitsuKi and Mirumoto Hakahime : My opponent attack me. I use the Shiro Kitsuki to put Mirumoto Hakahime into play and resolve Lion Attack the Crane. => I am the player that declare an attack phase against my opponent. So : Is Mirumoto Hakahime removed from the game? (I do not think so because the first battle will not finish until the end of the new attack phase)
A: Correct. She isn't removed until her battle ends, which is currently "on hold" while the new Attack is playing out in your example. Brook Cunningham, "The Lion attack The Crane", 14 May 2008 - Q: When does the action on Shiro kitsuki finally resolve?
A: Here. After Personality comes in. Zen Faulkes, "Shiro Kitsuki action resolution", 17 Nov 2005 - Q: When using Shiro Kitsuki's battle action, which reaction would be able to react first. "After a personality enters play" or "After a battle action resolves" or would their timing be the same and depend on who the active player is?
A: After Personality enters play; the idea being that individual effects must resolve before an actions can. Zen Faulkes, "Shiro Kitsuki action resolution", 17 Nov 2005 - Q: Can Kamnan xp. look at (and therefore discard) the personalities attached to a Shiro Kitsuki player's porvinces.
A: Yes. Zen Faulkes, "Shiro Kitsuki + Bayushi Kamnan", 7 May 2005 - Q: I'm attacking Shiro Kitsuki provinces, with a lonely Tsuruchi Arishia, at a province without defenders. He uses the stronghold to place a Samurai with less than four force (Mirumoto Gonkuro, for example) in the battle opposing me. Do I get to resolve Arishia's reaction before my opponent is able to resolve their battle action granted by the stronghold?
A: Yes. You get to respond once all immediate effects have resolved. That the stronghold allows another action doesn't change that it is a separate action. Zen Faulkes, "Tsuruchi Arishia / Shiro Kitsuki", 4 May 2005 - Q: Does being the active player come into play?
A: No. Zen Faulkes, "Tsuruchi Arishia / Shiro Kitsuki", 4 May 2005 - Q: Hello Gentlemen,
My opponent is playing Shiro Kitsuki. Two scenarios:
I'm attacking him, with a lonely Tsuruchi Arishia, at a province without defenders. He uses the stronghold to place a Samurai with less than four force (Mirumoto Gonkuro, for example) in the battle opposing me. Do I get to resolve Arishia's reaction before my opponent is able to resolve their battle action granted ny the stronghold?
What happens if I defend versus an army, pass (or they declare a naval invasion/play a sneak attack) and they again use the Shiro Kitsuki ability. Is the ruling the same. (In other words, does being the active player come into play?)
Thanks, and keep up the good work.
A: Kicked to Rules Junta. Zen Faulkes, "Tsuruchi Arishia / Shiro Kitsuki", 4 May 2005 - Q: When we choose to bring a personality into play from under our provinces, are we allowed to look and choose which one? Or are we going to have to remember exactly who is where?
A: Remember. Zen Faulkes, "Shiro Kitsuki", 4 Apr 2005
