Rules Q&A
- Q: This one came up in a game yesterday and I couldn't find a ruling in the Archives or work it out from card text.
I face up against Paneki Exp. with Shiryo no Shoju attached in a battle.....my opponent names an action I can't play. I choose another battle to resolve first and
A: Stop. Shoju's Reaction is used between when the Attacker picks which battle to resolve next and the formal start of that battle's Battle Action Segment. It's not legal for him to assign to Province B and then use it before knowing which Province you're going to resolve first. Jeff Alexander, "post for 17 June 2002", 18 Jun 2002 - Q: I would like to add my own quick question that I believe I know the answer too. since reactions are actions and Shiryo no Shoju's is taken before the defenders first action If I have Shiryo no Tasai at that battle can I cancel Shiryo no Shoju's Reaction?
A: No. Taisa can't cancel actions taken before the battle begins. Jeff Alexander, "post for 17 June 2002", 18 Jun 2002 - Q: Hi, I have a few questions:
- Me and a fellow scorpion are playing against each other (a pity, we could be killing cranes). He begins his turn and reveals Revering the Past. We both have Shiryo no Shoju on the deck. Who gets to attach it first?
I think that him, because the event is his
A: He, being the active player, can decide which of you resolves that part of the Event first. [rulebook p. 5] Jeff Alexander, "post for 10 June 2002", 11 Jun 2002 - Q: Another question, can you use Shiryo no Shoju in a Naval Invasion? It sais "Before the Battle Action Segment of a battle" so I would say yes (damn that card).
A: You are 100% correct. The rulebook prohibits spurious Reactions only from the start of the Battle Action Segment to the first normal Open/Battle action chance. Reactions which are clearly worded to happen before that time are still legal. Jeff Alexander, "post for 22 May 2002", 23 May 2002 - Q: This came up during a game tonight:
Can you use Shiryo no Taisa to cancel the action on Shiryo no Shoju? For a long time, I've played that you could, but tonight someone stopped me and pointed out that Shiryo no Shoju says "before the Battle Action segment" while Taisa says "during a battle." (full text below, from Websune)
A: Reactions that happen "before the Battle Action Segment" do not occur during battle. They do NOT happen "before the Defender's first action" or "at the start of the Battle Action Segment". Shiryo no Taisa cannot be used on Shiryo no Shoju. Jeff Alexander, "replies to 6 September", 11 Sep 2001
