Rules Q&A
- Q: Shiryo no Taisa Lion Clan Ancestor*Unique Reaction: When a player takes an action before the Defender's first action during a battle containing this unit, cancel that action.
My question is, If I´m the defender and I have more force than my opponent, If I pass at my first oportunity to take a battle or open action, can I use the reaction to cancel my opponents first action?
A: No. Taisa can only cancel an action before the Defender's first opportunity to take a Battle or Open action. Jeff Alexander, "post for 2 December 2002", 3 Dec 2002 - Q: Hi!
A few rules q's that came up while playing a lion:
Can Shriryo no Taisa Cancel a fall on your knees? (Lion attacks, plays sneak, I play fall, he cancels fall?) In other words, can Shiryo no Taisa cancel reactions that the defender takes before his normal first action?
A: Yes. Any time you see "before the Defender's first action", read it as "before the Defender's first normal chance to take a Battle or Open action". Jeff Alexander, "post for 15 August 2002", 11 Sep 2002 - Q: I'd like to get a clarification if I could. If i am the attacker, and Taisa's personality is in the battle, and the defender either uses fall on your knees on my Sneak or the Lion Terrain Buster reaction on my Deadly Ground, can Taisa cancel these reactions?
A: I'll give that one a tentative "yes". Jeff Alexander, "post for 29 April 2002", 30 Apr 2002 - Q: If i am the attacker, and Taisa's personality is in the battle, and the defender either uses fall on your knees on my Sneak or the Lion Terrain Buster reaction on my Deadly Ground, can Taisa cancel these reactions?
A: Jeff Alexander will have to check this answer, but I think so. (I say, "think", because we've been having some discussons in the Rules Junta about the interpretation of "before the Defender's first action.") Zen Faulkes, "Rules for 28 April 2002", 28 Apr 2002 - Q: What does Shiryo no Taisa Cancel? Anything after a battle is called, but before the first action?
A: That's the issue. Until now, phrases like "before the first action", "before the Defender's first action", and "when" or "immediately after the start of a battle" have been treated as equivalent, and now it's not so clear that they can be. Jeff Alexander, "post for 8 March 2002", 9 Mar 2002 - Q: This came up during a game tonight:
Can you use Shiryo no Taisa to cancel the action on Shiryo no Shoju? For a long time, I've played that you could, but tonight someone stopped me and pointed out that Shiryo no Shoju says "before the Battle Action segment" while Taisa says "during a battle." (full text below, from Websune)
A: Reactions that happen "before the Battle Action Segment" do not occur during battle. They do NOT happen "before the Defender's first action" or "at the start of the Battle Action Segment". Shiryo no Taisa cannot be used on Shiryo no Shoju. Jeff Alexander, "replies to 6 September", 11 Sep 2001 - Q: Does Shiryo no Taisa stop Naval Actions?
A: Yes. Zen Faulkes, "Shiryo no Taisa and Naval", 31 Mar 2005
