Rules Q&A
- Q: I want to ask about Personalities like Shosuro Mikado, Utaku Jamaira, Agasha Miyoshi, and other with similar traits like "Costs X less Gold if ..."
Normally, traits do not apply if the card where the trait is written are not in play. But this Personalities gets the Cost reduction because of "obvious legality rule". Is it true?
A: It isn't a matter of Obvious Legality. It has been clarified / errata'd directly:
"While traits of a card are always active, even while the card is not in play, the traits of a card that is not in play do not affect anything except that card itself. [Dawn of the Empire rulesheet erratum, JA, 8 November 2004]" (Accumulated Rulings, "Traits") Martin Lund, "Rules for 15 December 2004", 22 Dec 2004 - Q: When I use the second ability on Shosuro Mikado, do I shuffle the deck after I look? If not, do I put the cards back in their original order or an order of my chosing?
A: Looking at the top cards of a deck does not constitute an implicit instruction to change their order in any way, nor shuffle the deck. Martin Lund, "Rules for 5 May 2004", 8 May 2004 - Q: When is an action considered to have been played? This is in reference to Shosuro Mikado/Shadowed Tower and Storm Heart. If I use Storm Heart, do I use Mikado's/ST's reaction before or after the duel resolves?
A: After all the targeting and cost payments and Reactions they trigger, but before you resolve any effects of the Action. Martin Lund, "Rules for 29 April 2004", 2 May 2004
