Rules Q&A
- Q: Shrine to Fukurokujin You may have no more than one Shrine to Fukurokujin in play. Bow Shrine to Fukurokujin to produce 2 Gold. Limited: Bow Shrine to Fukurokujin and one of your Personalities to draw a card. Show the card to your opponents; if its Focus value is greater than or equal to the Personality's printed Chi, discard it.
Togashi Shozo Dragon Clan Monk - Tattooed Once per turn, before you draw a card, instead look at a number of cards on the top of your Fate deck equal to one plus the number of Elemental Rings you control and draw one of those of your choice. Leave the remaining cards in their original order.
Can I use the power of Togashi Shozo with Shrine to Fukurokujin?
A: Yes. You still have to show the drawn card to your opponents and possibly discard it. Jeff Alexander, "rules for 19 March 2004", 20 Mar 2004 - Q: Relevant Texts:
Shiba Ningen exp: Elemental Rection: Once per turn, after you draw a Fate card, discard that card to draw a Fate card.
Shrine to Fukurokujin: Bow Shrine to Fukurokujin and one of your Personalities to draw a card. Show the card to your opponants; if its Focus value is greater than or equal to the Personality's printed Chi, discard it.
Situation: I bow someone with 4 Chi to draw a card from Fukurokujin. I see the Focus Value of the card is 4. Can Ningen react immediately after the draw (There is a period between 'draw a card' and 'Show the card to your opponants') to discard that card and draw another?
A: Not only can he, he has to react then if he reacts at all. Jeff Alexander, "rules for 6 Feb. 2004", 7 Feb 2004 - Q: Political Reaction:
A: Raising the Focus Value is an effect from an Ability (Limited, Open, Battle, or Reaction), so it does not happen unless you choose to play the ability.
If you want to use the Reaction to raise the Focus Value and make it harder to use your own Shrine ... well, I'm not going to stop you - I just don't understand the motivation. I'd be much more inclined to use the Reaction to make it harder for my opponent to use his Shrine. Martin Lund, "Shrine to Fukurokujin and Kyuden Kyotei", 27 Mar 2008 - Q: http://www.alderac.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=59&t=66080
Regarding this, Shrine to Fukurokujin does say to draw the card, so I would think that you could in fact draw the card off the bottom of your deck with that holding. Correct?
A: Yup. That one managed to by on a bad copy-and-paste job. It does say "draw," so you can draw it off the bottom of your deck, just like Tetsu Kama Mura says. Martin Lund, "Tetsu Kama Mura and drawing cards", 29 Feb 2008 - Q: 2. take the bottom card of the deck with Shrine to Fukurokujin?
A: It says "draw" so you can draw it from the bottom. Martin Lund, "Tetsu Kama Mura and drawing cards", 29 Feb 2008 - Q: Does the new wording in SE means you only have to bow the shrine and not the targeted Personality ?
Shrine to Fukurokujin Limited: Bow this card and target one of your Personalities: Draw a card. Show it. If its Focus Value is greater than or equal to the Personality’s base Chi, discard it.
A: We are still not answering qustions regarding Samurai Edition card wordings, as we do not yet have complete reference material.
The announcement will be updated when we do. Thanks for being patient. Zen Faulkes, "Shrine to Fukurokujin", 29 Jul 2007 - Q: If the Shrine to Fukurokujin targets a personality with 1 Chi, and I draw a card with 1 or higher Focus Value, may I react with (Experienced Shiba) Ningen to discard that card and draw another card(?)
A: Yes. Zen Faulkes, "Shiba Ningen experienced and Shrine to Fukurokujin", 15 Jul 2007
