Hey guys, this came up recently. Can you declare an attack, then assign no infantry or cavalry, then go to the first battlefield and use Silent Movements (targeting any unbowed ninja at your home to pay the cost) to put a ninja from your home at the current battlefield, thus satisfying both presence and location after the movement? I searched but couldn't find a thread elsewhere answering this question. Thanks!
A: Moving a unit from your home to the Current Battlefield satisfies Location and Presence, so that's completely legal.
Battles are still fought and resolved, even when no one assigns any units to them. You can take full advantage of the Combat Segment to populate your side of the Battlefield with cards like Silent Movements, Akodo Shinichi, or Unwavering Assault. Martin Lund, "Silent Movements", 27 Feb 2008 - Q: I was playing a game today and a situation came up:
I was at a battlefield controlling Utaku Yu-Pan with two penalties; -3f/-1c from Silent Movements and -1f/-1c from a Kyuichi token. The opposing player plays Parley on Yu-Pan, he argued that Yu-Pan would then die since the penalty would be -4f/-2c then the token from Kyuichi would kick in and finish her off. I argued that he needed to give the Kyuichi penalty after using Parley in order for her to die since Parley would 'see' the token and adjust the penalty to -1C instead of -2C if it was already on her.
Which is correct? Does parley take into account the current chi of the personality from all tokens and modify its penalty accordingly? Or does Parley ignore the tokens and current effects and go purely by the personalities base stats, allowing the person to then die from effects already on her before Parley was announced?
Parley Political Battle: Target one of your unbowed Personalities: Target an enemy Personality. Give each target a Force and Chi penalty equal to his own Personal Honor; this cannot reduce Chi below 1.
A: Penalties are normally calculated in the order they were introduced to the card.
So if a personality with 2PH and 3C gets a -1C token and then later someone plays Parley against him, Parley applies against his current 2C, and reduces it to 1C.
If you want to piggy-back off of Parley to kill someone with Chi Penalties you'll need to deliver those penalties AFTER Parley, not before it.
For instance, play Parley to reduce someone to 1C, then use Shosuro Kyuichi's Reaction after Parley to add a -1F/-1C Poison token and finish your victim off. Martin Lund, "Parley and other Chi Penalties", 20 Feb 2008 - Q: Given that both effects of Silent Movements are optional (ie. "you may"), can one play this card and choose to have no effects occur.
A: Yes. Zen Faulkes, "Silent Movements", 13 Oct 2007
